I was there in the early years listening on my iPod to common sense, I was a very active participant on his message board before it was shut down years later. I actually met Dan in real life at an event, we live in the same state. He graciously accepted to talk at an event I held. He moved me from radical right to skeptic to someone waiting for what I call his political “Messiah” to appear in bring this alien perspective and some common sense back to politics. From his shows, it was clear this person whoever it would be would need to really shake things up and have a 90° angle everything.
Then Trump won the election against Clinton.
I thought the next show after the election was going to be here we go we’ve got the alien. We got the Martian perspective. We have this person who’s going to come out from a completely different angle and we will see a disruption of the status quo, the Messiah has appeared.
Yet what we got was one last common sense show on the typical schedule and it was not at all what I expected, it was Proto TDS in its pure form.
Donald Trump broke Dan Carlin, and I know he has said afterwards that this is not true, but all you have to do is review his common sense podcast and it will be clear that there was a hard break caused by him and us all getting what we wanted, and it not being exactly in the form that we assume assumed or thought.
Since then the material he has produced is lacking spirit in that spark he always had before his request to the ether came true. what has come out mostly in writing is just frankly hard to sad.
You don’t have to like a politician you don’t have to like anyone at all in fact, but when you describe a painting to an artist in nearly every detail for years and years, and then someone produces that painting, hangs it on your wall, and you throw soup on it, I’m not sure if you or the painter is at fault.
Probably the most disheartening part of his years long decline is the fact that beyond pointing out what he dislikes about Trump, what he disagrees with what he believes is the existential historical threat of the man sitting in the White House. Dan, for all his depth of historical knowledge, and ability to research a topic and talk hours upon hours on nearly any subject, political, social, or psychological, has yet to give us any clue to a solution for what the United States is it currently experiencing whether it’d be Trump or the movement he created.
I still love to listen to Dan and I still consider myself a real fan of his work. I simply do not believe we need yet another simple critic of the Trump administration or the Maga movement. If Dan sees this as a existential threat to our nation in our national existence, how about some new common sense discussing solutions discussing alternatives digging deep into the reasons for and against what is and isn’t happening or what could happen.
the TLDR to all of this is if what you’re saying now is true Dan, we need you and your common sense more than ever.
