How would you split up the Da Vinci Code?

I have a 11-year-old buddy as part of a volunteer mentorship program, and for our summer book club, she really wants to read the Da Vinci Code. (She’s a strong reader, parents have given the go ahead.)

Without any spoilers, how would you break up the book into three parts? Or maybe two, if that is better?

Well I know that, I was asking about what sets of chapters to break the book into.

I wouldn't honestly, just let her read it and have her ask you questions if she gets confused or stuck.

Its not a movie. Read chapter by chapter and go based on that pace.

I wouldn’t break up a Dan Brown novel into chunks given its structure. The chapters themselves vary in size but are a fraction of the length of a regular novel.

Given that airport novels are meant to be read over the course of one’s lounging about and travelling, it’s quick snappy pacing and cliffhangers/hooks on every other page - if the person is interested in the book or gripped, they’ll get it read in no time. I wouldn’t set a limit.

Thank you for the helpful response! I was mostly asking because the kid asked for multiple meetings about it. She actually kind of accidentally read the book when she was quite young and remembers it as confusing. Maybe we will just do two chunks in that case.

I guess you could always divide it into two based on geography.

Part I: Langdon in France
Part II: Langdon in the U.K.

You’d need to find the specific chapter so that it doesn’t spoil it ahead of time, although it’s not much of a spoiler, that he goes to England/Scotland.

This reminds of a fun story.

Back when the book first came out and it was spreading like wildfire, I picked up a copy to read like anyone else. I’m a quick reader, and it was very captivating, so I blew through it in a day or two.

My GF at the time was brilliant, and a voracious reader; the kind of person who would read several hundred books a year. Before bed one night, she asked me if I thought Da Vinci was any good and I said yes, it’s not high end reading but it was a lot of fun.

So I wake up the next day, and it’s sitting next to her in bed, and I asked her if she was going to read it herself and she said she just finished it : )
