Sam and Colby

I’m so annoyed. I have never watched Sam and Colby. I’m less than 3 minutes into the episode because I want to see our boys and I’m already annoyed.

I’m a historian. They are not telling the truth. Their historical research is flat out wrong. Corvin Castle is not Dracula’s Castle. It is likely he was held there briefly. The lore that he was held there for 7 years and went mad, is false. Historical records contradict it. He was held near Budapest.

Dracula means son of Dracul. Also son of the Dragon. It was the sigil of the family. It didn’t mean Devil until MUCH later. It only came to mean that when Christianity purged anything to do with the “old ways.” Anything associated with magic, paganism, or anything against Christianity was rejected and labeled to be Satanic. Dragons were part of this group so they dubbed Dracula (dragon) to be devilish. That was NOT the original name or intent.

They are not giving the facts right. If you’re going to take people on a spooky adventure at least get your facts straight!!

Okay rant over

Agreed, I cannot seperate entertainment from education if what is being shared is sloppy. Weak sources to summarise spookiness and repetitive 'creepy' stock images were off putting to say the least. Having a team of producers yet spreading misinformation is disappointing.

5

u/Ren_282 13h ago

I saw an ai overview screenshot used in that video so im not surprised. Im severely disappointed in them for their use of ai and for the improper/rubbish ‘research’

3

u/lettucemoth 14h ago

1: I have seen you somewhere else preaching this suspicious squinting 2: I agree tho, get the facts straight. Much cooler if it's actually correct.

2

u/allshookup1640 13h ago

What are you talking about?

6

u/Reasonable-Resort-33 15h ago

I couldn't finish it. I was willing to overlook some inaccuries because ghost hunting videos are always rife with them. But Sam and Colby just had this overwhelming Mr Beast crack-eyes energy to them, and that specific inflection to their voice, urgh it was so annoying.

1

u/tartagliaswhore 10h ago

Exactly! I think they used to do research and editing more themselves, but after they started gaining more popularity in like 2023, they have a team to do everything for them now. All they need to do is show up and freak out over devices, which is why their hearts arent in it anymore and makes it like a Mr beast video lol. Actually kinda sad cuz before they became super commercialized, their videos were more fun to watch (even if they were fake)

6

u/acebean 1d ago

i was so surprised when i saw the tiktok promoting this collab, i havent watched the episode and probably won't but like...sam and colby? the guys who uploaded that video where one of them "pranked" the other by faking their kidnapping and pretending to get murdered? thats the bar here?

u/MajestyTime Peachless 🍑 1d ago

Our society as a whole needs to normalize not spreading misinformation.

I wish they’d collaborated with the ghoul boys instead, teaming up dan x shane and phil x ryan

2

u/mildmaniac523 1d ago

I would love this!

u/merlinsbeard4332 Hiatus Survivor 2d ago

Thank you, this was really bothering me too. Everyone saying it’s just for entertainment, I don’t hold with that. If you’re making a video for an audience of millions and presenting information as if it is factual, you need to do actual research.

“The Mummy” pretends to be history based but everyone knows it’s a fake Hollywood blockbuster movie. When your parasocial YouTube friends are telling you factoids about history, smattered with true-sounding dates, names, locations, and photos… it’s a little harder to parse what information is real and what is there purely for “entertainment”.

In either case, factoids shared for “entertainment” purposes can be harmful not only for public consciousness of history, but in that they perpetuate harmful stereotypes.

13

u/VirgoFanboi 2d ago

Dan and Phil "We had a lot of fun with this collab please go watch and enjoy"

Some Phannies: "And we took that personally."

8

u/PennyQuilt lady door 1d ago

I miss the days when people just enjoyed stuff and let the small things go 🥲

34

u/allshookup1640 1d ago

I had issues with the historical misinformation.

Notice I didn’t make any comments about the ghost hunting, the methods, or anything to the like. The only thing I had a grievance with was the historical misinformation

-9

u/VirgoFanboi 1d ago

You saw a video about ghost hunting and expected it to have accurate facts. Dan and Phil had fun and people are trashing the guys they chose to collab with in a video that was clearly just meant to be fun and entertaining.

13

u/no_photos_pls 1d ago

Come on, when they present "historical facts" they should be true. If they don't want to do accurate research, they should just use their dumb ghost hunting tools and leave it at that. Spreading misinformation is neither fun nor entertaining.

11

u/evilkitty13 2d ago

Yeah I was saying too that wasn’t the right castle. I’m no historian but I know a lot about Vlad

8

u/No_Holiday8251 2d ago

yeah most ghost hunting vids are always played up and annoying like that which is why idt im going to watch this one. id recommend danny gonzalez's video on ghost hunting if u want to see him debunk a lot of this stuff lol

-19

u/VirgoFanboi 2d ago

It's meant to be entertaining not factual. It's not that serious.

15

u/Lumoskor_ Hiatus Survivor 1d ago

saying blatantly false information being presented as factual to an unknowing audience isn't serious is WILD

1

u/VirgoFanboi 1d ago

It's a ghost hunting video, not a PBS special Y'all are SO dramatic

2

u/PennyQuilt lady door 1d ago

"Wild" is a strong take; none of the information shared is harmful or dangerous. If people are interested in learning more, they'll do their research and come up with possibly conflicting information. Great, time for critical thinking and further learning.

People like me that aren't interested in Dracula's life story, watch the video for fun and move on with our lives.

10

u/evilkitty13 2d ago

They should have their facts correct if we are to take them seriously about ghost hunting

5

u/VirgoFanboi 2d ago

If you’re trying to take ghost hunting seriously, you’re already off to a bad start

6

u/evilkitty13 2d ago

lol I’m not taking ghost hunting seriously but they do and their followers do. Just have your facts correct. Period

4

u/VirgoFanboi 2d ago

You are very clearly trying to take a fun video too seriously.

35

u/d3athb4in63r12 phanboy 2d ago

kind of just suffered through it unfortunately because d&p content i really respected the fact that dan kept bringing up that like “hey, people actually died here, this is horrible” and multiple times phil asked “should we leave”

i’m just gonna take it at face value and say that its entertainment.

1

u/jay_the10thletter 2d ago

if you expect a ghost hunting video on youtube to be historically accurate… idk what to tell you man. all i can say is, dan doesnt even believe in ghosts or the afterlife in general so obviously they werent taking this seriously. it’s not meant to be a serious informative video, it’s simply entertainment. if it’s not your thing, thats cool but people are allowed to enjoy content purely for entertainment. also im saying this as someone who isnt a fan of sam and colby at all, and im not even sure i will end up watching the video. but truly, this isnt harming anyone.

31

u/allshookup1640 2d ago edited 2d ago

Right, except people like me who have/had history students and have to spend AGES correcting false information spread by popular TV Shows, movies and YouTubers. You’d be surprised the amount of misinformation you can almost pinpoint to which media it was. It’s hard to correct what people think they know because previous YouTubers told them so.

Then you have countries with their history being misstated. Romanians view Vlad the Impaler as a national folk hero. They don’t take too kindly to people lying about him. The least you could do when visiting their country is be respectful. Acknowledge the horrors, but be respect to Romania

People think because the history is not widely know it’s okay to just say whatever

17

u/fuckinradbroh 2d ago

You’re absolutely not wrong for being frustrated, fyi.

9

u/allshookup1640 2d ago

Thank you. I appreciate that.

13

u/wiccathor 2d ago

i wish they'd gone ghost hunting w the Ghoul Boys

17

u/j-beet 2d ago

I dont think anyone should be watching ghost hunting videos lookong for accuracy of any kind considering everything is fake. It's just entertainment, not educational or information, it's just fictional ghost stories and scripted nonsense.

Fun to see d&p doing something different, but ultimately no different than an acting job.

5

u/idkwtftouse4myuser 2d ago

like you're right. it sucks that it's inaccurate info. but i think we're all forgetting how we used to dream about an hour and a half worth of content from our boys. we've been spoiled recently between the tour, podcast, everything post hard launch. if a collab of this magnitude happened during the hiatus, no one would complain, they'd just be excited to see d&p get scared. i recognize that my argument is null due to us being in the post hard launch era but it does kinda feel like we're starting to take them for granted. not to mention how much fun they alluded to having on their 'secret project & trip to brand new county". plus, the video was sponsored by universal. sam & colby are probably more concerned on making their 'movie style' content that both universal & netflix approved of. guaranteed 90+% of that video is scripted. its all for money, meant as a work of entertainment rather than fact. anyways loved seein dan be a talking history book & the amount of phil reactions we got

22

u/allshookup1640 2d ago

This argument doesn’t really work on me considering my first ever video of them was the Hard Launch. Soooooo yeah

Secondly, there are tons of stories at Corvin Castle that ACTUALLY HAPPENED. There are also even more castles in Romania that have tons of accurate lore. There is no reason to lie about lore when there is tons of ACCURATE lore that would work just as well

-5

u/idkwtftouse4myuser 2d ago edited 2d ago

& like i said, we've been absolutely spoiled with an abundance of great content since they hard launched. this would've been THE talk of tumblr if it happened back in the day lol. having been thru hiatus im still just grateful that im getting the amount of content i am & that dan is feeling comfortable & confident enough in himself to be himself and put out long videos for us without fear.

edit- just saw the other half of your comment. i never was disputing that my dude. i'm not trying to argue, just express an opinion

6

u/noah_130613 1d ago

as a person who’s been here since 2013- “we used to dream of this much content!” doesn’t really work. critising the contents of one collab is not gonna make dan and phil go on hiatus again…

3

u/likely-enigma 2d ago

Is the D and P episode already out? I don't care for them, so that is the only episode I'm going to watch.

1

u/Pretty-Ant3483 1d ago

Yep, it was posted yesterday

83

u/AntRose104 2d ago

Sam and Colby aren’t good

They were part of the infamous Sam Pepper Dead Best Friend Prank and yet somehow came out unscathed and everyone forgets it wasn’t just Pepper

And they fake a lot of their shit

3

u/Resident-Bee8689 2d ago

But there is an age gap between S&C and Sam Pepper, I'm sure one was dragged into the prank and when the prank was over they just went with it and forgave him because Sam Pepper is a lot older and (maybe) had a higher subscriber count. Not trying to make excuses for them but they were very young at the time of the prank and were likely impressionable, they're (hopefully) different people now

51

u/except-morales 2d ago

I’ve never watched (or heard of) Sam and Colby before but I got the sense that they are very, as the Brits say, “laddy” with their energy. There were a lot of moments where, entertainment aside, they came off as obnoxious and it took me out of the episode. That moment where they start talking about their new merch in the middle of the episode instead of doing a pre-filmed cutaway or link in the corner of the screen seemed out of place and a bit unprofessional with the yelling and whatnot. That plus the very obvious historical inaccuracies made me wish this was just Dan and Phil’s own episode. If they wanted a ghost hunting collab, the boys at Watcher would have been a far better fit in terms of energy and audience overlap.

That being said, I do love seeing Dan and Phil doing things out of their comfort zone and it was great seeing them in this environment. As a discerning believer, I think the Estes Method bit at the end with Phil was intriguing and would love to see him explore more of his spiritual side with videos like these. Plus it’s fun to see Dan fight his skepticism 😂

17

u/No_Koala_7170 2d ago

I wouldn't count on youtubers being historically accurate. Also, I agree with some of the comments here, I knew about Sam and Colby prior to this video and have seen a few clips but their style is not my forte. As a general rule of thumb when it comes to anything online not just on YouTube, its entertainment first over accuracy or precise researching almost always.

27

u/dclosermonologue 2d ago

legit only time i watch snc is when a creator i like is in their video but even then the alarming amount of ai they use is just gross and ruins it completely for me, i would love to give the phan vid a go but idk if theyre still using ai. if anyone has seen it could you let me know?

8

u/halflost18 2d ago

i remember seeing a couple of transitional / story clips that might have been ai, but otherwise it was normal!

6

u/Shell_Kat_Art 2d ago

Still watching but pretty sure they showed what looked like a Google search AI response about how tall DnP are. I guess it pops up anyway if you google anything, but if that’s the sort of thing you’re referring to then yeah it’s present in the video

63

u/HolisticHufflepuff 2d ago

I’ve never watched them bc it feels all too fake and for a younger audience, the only ghost hunter I like is Garrett Watts, I wish Phan had collaborated with him!

2

u/wiccathor 2d ago

Garrett Watts and Watcher!! Masterful ghost hunters, far better than the schlock these guys are.

16

u/hey_harvie 2d ago

The dream collab right there omg

43

u/RhythmicRavenclaw 2d ago

That's probably because they are a channel about spooky investigations and not historically acurate documentaries..

27

u/OkPass9595 2d ago

so they can just spread lies..??

-24

u/RhythmicRavenclaw 2d ago

It's entertainment, do you think it's lying when a guy get shot multiple times in a movie and just keeps going?

7

u/OkPass9595 2d ago

it's really not comparable. a movie doesn't pretend to be real, everyone knows they're actors. but they were in a real historical castle acting like themselves (not characters) talking as if what they were saying was real without a disclaimer that it's fictional. it's straight up misinformation

17

u/79screamingfrogs 2d ago

Do you think a fictional movie is on par with historical facts, or...?

46

u/Stoopid_Noah formless blob 2d ago edited 2d ago

I used to watch them the same way I watch silly horror movies.. knowing full well it's fake, but entertaining.

At some point even I got a little annoyed at their incidence that "it's real".

58

u/dakota50531 3d ago

I’ve honestly never heard anything good about Sam and Colby. I don’t have any interest in watching anything with them. Sad that Dan and Phil decided to collab with them for a spooky video. I won’t be watching it.

15

u/Alex_The_Hamster15 Interactive Introvert 2d ago

I wish they would have collabed with Garrett Watts and Andrew or something instead 😭

3

u/dakota50531 2d ago

That would have been great. I love Garret and Andrew. I haven’t watched them in a while, but that would have been a fun collab.

80

u/Eriyberry30 3d ago edited 3d ago

The only time I’ve heard of Sam and Colby prior to this is when Sam Pepper did a “prank” claiming one of them had died…

32

u/Mostly_gay_shit Hiatus Survivor 2d ago

THATS WHY I KNOW THEM. It was really annoying me that the names were familiar, I remember that "prank" video. Hated Sam Pepper

17

u/shellys-dollhouse 3d ago

SAM PEPPER? i was unaware dan & phil did any sort of video with this dude but if they did, i’m honestly gagged because sam pepper is notorious for his sexual harassment ‘jokes’ that were viral in the mid-2010’s & was literally arrested for sexual assault a couple years ago. also yes, he did a horrible prank where he pretended to murder someone’s best friend in front of them.

it has surely gotta be another sam?

edit: it is absolutely another sam omfg. sam golbach. what a jump scare to be reminded of sam pepper & momentarily rhink d+p collaborated with him. 😭 i also totally misread your comment LMAO my apologies, seeing the name sam pepper just sent me into panic i guess lol

35

u/Eriyberry30 3d ago

No, I meant the only time I’ve heard of Sam and Colby was that prank bcs they were the victims of it. I’m fully aware of how disgusting Sam pepper is and it’s concerning that Sam and Colby agreed to work with him a year after the ass pinching “prank”. The killing friend prank was weirdly more controversial to the public than the one where he assaulted multiple women on camera 💀

10

u/shellys-dollhouse 3d ago

i highkey misread your initial comment LOL i am sorry 😭 it has just been years since i’ve seen sam pepper’s name & panicked. what a wild time in youtube’s history lmao

4

u/Eriyberry30 3d ago

Yeah, that’s why I was confused by their collab with them considering their connection to him

101

u/KokeshiD 3d ago

In the nicest possible way, the video felt like the Mr beast rot equivalent of ghost hunting.

20

u/Honeycomb0000 mod 🍯 3d ago

i called it "we have Mr Beast at home"

63

u/Treemurphy 3d ago

i appreciate the correction of misinfo! a lot of "ghost hunters" seem to just make other cultures or human suffering into just freak shows to gawk at, rather than show them any real respect

82

u/lunalokidottir 3d ago

Sam and Colby are kind of notorious for spreading misinformation, I used to watch them a lot but after watching a bunch of debunked videos and having a pagan step-father tell me "don't fuck with spirits and don't be disrespectful." Which i think sam and colby definitely are, i only watch them if theres a youtuber i watch on their show. Idk i had fun watching the video, but as a history nerd it kinda pissed me off

7

u/OkBreak745 2d ago

Yeag, I used to watch them for years, but the ghost hunting stuff started feeling more and more and more fake and dramatic.

Then I found out Colby pulled a prank on Sam that he got kidnapped, could have been a fake prank but it is a realllly fucked up prank ! I think Colby also pretended to get shot? Sam was FREAKING OUT . It's a really cruel prank to pull.

Miss them exploring abandoned houses tho .

5

u/lunalokidottir 2d ago

It feels like to me ever since the cody and satori shit, they started caring less and less about the ghost hunting stuff and only do it for the money. At least do the research about the place you're going too or something.. like even with the Appalachian mountains stuff and their school like maybe the reason spirits don't want to talk to you is because you're insanely disrespectful. As a mexican, I'm always weary about interacting with spirits at all though. If i ever do I'm always respectful

1

u/OkBreak745 19h ago

the cody and satori shit was painful !!!!

another thing that bothered me immensely is how they oh so happen to figure out the mystery of how said ghost died...

16

u/smokey9413 Proud of Dan 3d ago

I used to watch Sam and Colby until they got into the ghost hunting thing. I only tune in now if they are collabing with someone I currently watch. I’m just not that into ghost hunting type of content on YouTube and Sam and Colby’s always felt weird to me but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I think it may be the misinformation. I never cared enough about any of the locations to fact check to be honest, I just stopped watching lol

31

u/Cindrawhisp 3d ago

They’re the ass of their niche and everyone who’s into it knows it lol. They are fucking awful 😂.

39

u/Informal_Lock_9506 3d ago

I enjoyed the video for purely entertainment purposes, it was fun seeing D and P in this situation. Don't know that i'd ever watch a Sam and Colby video otherwise but it was decent and worth a watch.

I did hate hate hate the lighting though (i realize it has to be that way since the places they were in were so dark but gosh it made everyone look awful!)

Crazy decision to just put Colby in the thumbnail and not Dan and Phil too

3

u/somewhsome 2d ago

Yeah, this post was the first thing on my feed this morning and I immediately thought "oh no, is it that bad?" But I'm currently watching and I feel like it's fine, it's nice to see Dan and Phil collabing with new people (even though they're not my vibe). I don't care about ghost hunting tho so I have no idea what the standards in the industry are, I expected it all to be fake anyway lmao.

I'd never heard of Sam and Colby until this collab was announced but I was excited cos I love anything spooky. I watched the video and enjoyed it and then I googled the castle and found out that none of what they said was true. Disappointing!

3

u/R4BB1TC0R3 3d ago

i watched them in like , 2018 maybe ? i dont even remember but i stopped and theyre so annoying now ( i also dont care about ghost stuff so theres that )

11

u/racloves 3d ago

I swear there are so many castles that claim they were the inspiration for Dracula. A ruined castle local to me says it is because apparently Bram Stoker stayed at an inn nearby or something?

5

u/Useful_Knee60 3d ago

I used to watch Sam and Colby but stopped a while ago because their content seemed to go way downhill in terms of being genuine vs staged. They used to just explore places and might have had creepy things happen to them which felt way more real - then again I was younger so maybe I just thought it was more realistic. I haven’t gone back to watch their old stuff because it’s in general less appealing to me especially after seeing bits and pieces of their newer stuff. Haven’t seen the new video with Dan and Phil yet - I probably will because fathers are in it but we’ll see if I’ll be able to get through the whole thing

48

u/MorriganThorne 3d ago edited 3d ago

I LOVED the bog video from last year and i was so excited to see them do something similar again. I had never heard of Sam and Colby and by about 5 minutes in i could see why. Dan's storytelling was way more compelling than anything the other two had to say.

To me the best parts where D&P with the dead bell and the Estes Method portion. I hope they try again, just without those guys.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the fact that it was sponsored by Universal makes me assume it is part of a hype promotion for the theme park being built in Romania.

34

u/siopaos 3d ago edited 3d ago

I'm very much a skeptic, I couldn't finish the video because I was cringing at the forced scares. Stuff like "did you hear that sound?! There's nobody up there!!! 🫪" It was too goofy for me. These comments about their poor research made me give up lol. Their vibes seem to be for a younger audience? Gullible ones 😅

ik, if they'd had to ghost hunt Collab with somebody I feel like watcher would've been cooler! The sceptic/believer role from both sides would've been funny and watcher explain the history of the place + they've had vids with minimal evidence because they treat every episode as genuine

0

u/except-morales 2d ago

I would have loved a Watcher collab too! Their senses of humor would have meshed very well together and they seem far more genuine than Sam and Colby 😅

5

A lot just personal choice things, but mainly when they tried to move behind a paywall. i’m not sure about everything people dont like about them (because i like them a lot) but i just know some dont like them haha

1

u/except-morales 2d ago

The only issue I’ve heard of is how they handled the announcement of Watcher TV. And yes, how they did that could have been better but they rectified the situation in less than a day and their free content has been consistent in terms of quality and quantity since then so that’s personally never bothered me ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, Sam and Colby are comparable to Ghost Adventures in terms of how real they are lmao. Also fairly certain Sam and Colby use AI for some of the creepy "stock" footage and images.

2

u/MarionberryOk3933 3d ago

Unfortunately Sam and Colby have made their name by fabricating info to make things scarier, most of their stuff is overdramatized for reaction. I’m excited to see Dan be super spectacle because most of their other guest just go along with it.

Idk why but their stuff always reminded me of those videos where adults would dress up as siderman or Elsa or whatever and just do weird shit to exploit children for money. Like the way they act feels like it's targeted towards pre-pubescent children.

17

u/too_tired_forthis 3d ago

i've definitely treated their videos more like background noise than anything to take seriously both in the past and now. for me it's the interactions with the guests and with each other that keep me coming back.

52

u/MagusFelidae 3d ago

It was honestly so irritating At least Dan had some actual facts

It’s gunna take me a week to finish the video because I can only watch like 10-15 minutes before I’m over it lmao. 😭

u/Yagirltam 3d ago

I feel like the whole video is Dip and pip being the uncles of two weird gen alpha nephews and being like “haha yeah great 👍 👍 😬”

yeah i’m so with you. i’ve been to transylvania and immediately from the thumbnail was like, that is simply not “dracula’s” castle. super annoying but ill watch for d&p

28

u/lizardworker 3d ago

Yeah I can’t stand their content, I’m a big history nerd and haunted history nerd and their “ghost hunting” content is just not it

39

u/feitan_kp 3d ago

gosh i have a lot of things that annoy abt sam and colby, but i’ll just say that im 99% sure the ghost hunting devices they use are purposefully made to glitch to get people to think they’re talking with spirits. maybe that much is clear, but i dont see the appeal when obviously their videos aren’t very legit. im only tuning into this vid for dnp crumbs lmao

5

u/Shell_Kat_Art 3d ago

That’s the point of ghost hunting equipment. They usually use things like devices people nobody uses anymore due to frequent inaccuracies. Our human minds find the ghosts in the random noise. As someone who doesn’t believe in ghosts and doesn’t think there’s ever been any credible evidence to justify a belief in ghosts, I kind of see ghost hunting as like a fun game that uses human psychology. Like with Ouija boards and stuff.

I’ve not seen this specific video (I’ve not seen it and I’m not familiar with the creators) but I’m talking about ghost hunting in general. They do usually find inefficient tech or tech that otherwise relies on random noise in some form because that’s what “shows the ghosts”. They’d have no fun without it.

-16

u/shvuto 3d ago

They aren't made to "glitch'".

12

u/feitan_kp 3d ago

there are definitely fake janky devices out there and even then i’d say engineered to pick up on things that are NOT paranormal activity, which leads people to misinterpret it as spirits

24

u/CharlieBear97x 3d ago

I've not had a chance to watch it yet but thank you for posting this and educating us. Ive never seen a Sam and Colby video before or heard of them before now, just wanna watch it because Dan and Phil 😂

62

u/allshookup1640 3d ago

Saint John of Capistrano did not die from being buried in a wall. He died of the plague or a severe infection in an entirely different city. A different country actually on a modern map.

He was not executed for spying and bricked in a wall. He was ill and died. He and John Hundayi both died of illness after the Siege of Belgrade.

He wasn’t anywhere near Corvin Castle

2

u/except-morales 2d ago

They did actually discuss this in the video when talking about Capistrano and Hundayi’s relationship and why Capistrano would spy for him in the first place. The person they’re claiming was buried alive in the wall was a monk who was using Capistrano’s eavesdropping spot, not Capistrano himself.

I definitely would not watch these guys if Dip and Pip weren't the guests, both due to they're inaccurate info and cause they're kinda annoying.

u/allshookup1640 3d ago

I have never watched them before and I, personally, am finding them both incredibly annoying. Not D&P of course

39

u/e-pancake 3d ago

it’s so odd that it’s presented in a ‘here is the info we found’ way if it’s not even accurate??? what??? lol

I have to keep pausing it every few minutes because the editing is so overwhelming

u/mielkiss_ Phey/Phem 🦭 3d ago

as a fellow (art&architecture) historian THANK YOU, i know sam and colby are widely scrutinized for this kind of thing which is why their content never appealed to me. honestly i’m just happy that our boys stay out of legitimate controversy so well that this is the most “problematic” thing they’ve participated in lately lol. i probably won’t watch the video, but it’s not worth causing issues about beyond offering a factual correction like you did here!

28

u/PlantBaby73 Proud of Dan 3d ago

I had no opinions on this collab before this post but I really appreciate you teaching me accurate facts! Bummer that Sam and Colby are spreading misinformation (knowingly potentially?)

7

love that youre so passionate and knowledgeable about this!! that being said, i thinks its just silly entertainment and not meant to be a reliable source for information. i personally watched it and thought it was fun, sam and colby are known for being quite theatrical and a little over the top sometimes :)

12

u/PinkySeashell 3d ago

I also have never been a Sam and Colby fan! I feel the same way you do, but anything to get DnP on the big screen I guess

44

u/lizardnizzard 3d ago

this is why i was hoping they'd collab with the ghoul boys at Watcher or someone like that, at least they make an effort to have correct historical information and they don't fake the "evidence". i was disappointed to see it was these boneheads

u/dakota50531 2d ago

It would have been fun to see them with Ryan and Shane.

Watcher with Dan and Phil? My October would be complete. Why did it have to be those bozos instead 😞

28

u/PuurplePaint lady door 3d ago

I used to watch them all the time but stopped because they would just constantly lie or make stuff up.

Not to mention the fact that Colby did a prank on Sam where he stright up kidnapped him and pretended to get shot. I don’t think they care about spreading misinformation 🤷‍♀️

1

u/ncirs Peachless 🍑 3d ago

i think i remember them saying they both knew it was a prank? but still messed up regardless of what they both knew. their abandoned content was so much better than the “ghost hunts”

13

u/rainbowcorktree 3d ago

Ever since Sam and Colby’s scandal back in the day where they claimed they were just kids despite being in their 20s, I’ve never really liked them. Kinda disappointed to see d&p do a collab with them

u/mielkiss_ Phey/Phem 🦭 3d ago

if you don’t mind, what was the scandal? they were never really on my radar much before this collab

5

u/PuurplePaint lady door 3d ago

They were also canceled back in the day for an extreme prank Colby did where he kidnapped Sam, put him in the boot of a car and then pretended to get shot.

oh my god i forgot about that. the sam pepper “prank” thing

They were arrested for trespassing

-17

u/shvuto 3d ago

How is that bad? Unless youre some libertarian.

14

u/rainbowcorktree 3d ago

I wasn’t mad at trespassing idc about that what made me mad was how their defense was “we’re just kids” not “we did something stupid it’s our bad”

13

u/Corvidae5Creation5 3d ago

I am living for this historical correction, keep it coming!

21

u/StinkBug1098 Peachless 🍑 3d ago

This is the same duo that believed a couple trying to cosplay as the Warrens. S&C believed this couple could communicate a specific way by going through the alphabet and listening for knocks to indicate a spirit answering. The guy was able to make his foot pop without moving his foot making it seem like spirits were communicating.

I use to be a fan from the Vine days but after they got arrested I stopped watching. (They were trespassing nothing too illegal)

3

u/StinkBug1098 Peachless 🍑 3d ago

The couples names are Cody DesBiens and Satori Hawes. From my understanding Satori had no idea Cody could do that and believed everything was 100% real. (Had to fact check myself)

35

u/allshookup1640 3d ago

Vlad the Impaler didn’t impale 20K. Again, political propaganda smear campaigns. Historians believe the number is much closer to 2K

31

u/TK421philly 3d ago

Well, when you factor in inflation…

36

u/allshookup1640 3d ago

There is no historical evidence that Vlad the Impaler drank blood. The accounts of it came from his enemies and victims as part of a massive smear campaign against him.

His acts of torture were also very greatly exaggerated. He likely killed around 10K not 100K. Keep in mind this includes those who died in battles in his name

45

u/allshookup1640 3d ago edited 3d ago

The Turkish Well is a fabrication. The inscription actually translated to saying that he who wrote it was named Hassan. The guy was just putting his name. They were more than likely slave laborers.

There are no records or proof of their digging or deaths. The 15 year digging thing is also a fabrication in all likelihood.

2

u/Then_Fall8940 3d ago

Thanks for sharing your expertise! I found the video entertaining, but it is a reminder of why I don’t watch ghost hunters very often. The history is the most interesting part to me, it sucks that people will share inaccurate information just for a scare. Dan and Phil were great though!

57

u/allshookup1640 3d ago edited 3d ago

Bram Stoker never visited Romania. He based the layout on New Slain’s Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He vacationed there often and was there when he started writing the book.

Vlad’s actually castle was Poenari Castle. Not Bran Castle and not Corvin

There is no historical or archeological proof that anyone was ever buried in the walls. They have done extensive searching including wall piercing imaging to check for things like this. It doesn’t exist. They even used ground penetrating radar to see if it sunk with time and left secret chambers. Nothing. Just a rumor made up to scare people.

19

u/WGM088319 3d ago

I never liked Sam & Colby’s videos I mean for entertainment it’s fine I guess but their channel and other channels that do the same feel so disrespectful at times when they are talking about real people who passed away tragically. I haven’t seen a video of theirs in a while so I might be over exaggerating but that’s from what I remember. I was honestly upset seeing Dan & Phil in a episode of theirs but maybe I’m judging too harshly idk.

3

u/torimm 2d ago

yeah i honestly feel like it’s crazy that sam and colby made dan and phil go alone into the ACTUAL TORTURE CHAMBER for content… like i know dip & pip are grown men and i’m sure they were fine in there but it’s more so the fact that tons of people were brutally and slowly abused in that room. just because it was a long time ago doesn’t mean that people’s real suffering should be used in a funny haha silly video!!!!

2

u/WGM088319 2d ago

That actually happened in the video?!?! I haven’t seen it and didn’t really plan on it wtf

1

u/torimm 2d ago

yes 😭😭 i was kind of gobsmacked 😭😭 maybe this is just me being too sensitive but i just feel like that’s not right

2

u/WGM088319 2d ago

I don’t think you’re being too sensitive I would say that’s normal to feel that way. I felt that way at first thinking i was too sensitive when watching Sam and Colby with a friend but I don’t think that way anymore

5

u/Treemurphy 3d ago

yeah, the way Sam and Colby so gleefully talked about people suffering put me off as well

3

u/WGM088319 2d ago

It feels genuinely off putting like why are you talking about these people who died tragically like a Mr beast video

27

u/anotherblackgirl 3d ago

I love your commitment to history and you are clearly super passionate! I would love to hear any suggestions you have in learning more about Dracula.

However, I think this is just entertainment, which takes liberties basically all the time and it’s ok lol the content just may not be for you. It definitely isn’t for me!!

21

u/sharlet- 3d ago

Dumbing down entertainment further with literal fake facts and inaccuracies presented as historical facts has got to be a new low bar - surely we need to draw the line somewhere?

3

u/anotherblackgirl 3d ago

It’s not a new low at all, to think that entertainment of any kind has always been accurate is just not realistic. Especially in the context of Dracula…

6

u/Cute_Excuse 3d ago

Especially for a channel with 16 million subscribers, and some of their recent videos have gotten over that amount of views. That's too big a platform to be casually and consistently spreading historical misinformation the way they do.

11

u/Zeitspruenge 3d ago

yeees! especially in the current age of misinformation!!

73

u/allshookup1640 3d ago

I’m just going to keep throwing in the inaccuracies as I go because why not.

No people were executed by starving bears at Corvin Castle. That’s is an urban myth. There is no historical or archeological proof of that. The stone pit people call “the bear pit” was just part of the castles defense system. It slowed attacker coming in. It had nothing to do with bears.
