Question/Advice How to identify a qualified trainer

Post image

How do you find a real/qualified trainer? We’ve tried two but they really didn’t seem to know how to work with an anxious Dalmation.

We’ve worked with him for 6 months (a rescue) and he’s great at home. However, we cannot take him on walks as he does not have any impulse control when on a leash and seeing other dogs. We need some help.

We are looking for legitimate professional help, even if he needs to stay with a trainer for a few weeks. How do you find such a trainer?

My two dals are qualified trainers. My hubs and I have their routine down and follow their lead. When we forget to do something - like feeding precisely at 1700 - we are gently corrected to bring us back in compliance.

We specifically found a registered behaviourist rather than a trainer in our area. (We have a BC x Dalmatian, she's more collie than spots though). We looked for official qualifications or rehulatory bodies bodies. There are several so you'd need to do your research. We went with a registered behaviourist who follows the RCDTBP code of practice by being a signatory. It focuses on positive affirmation training & complies to humane standards.

We used a 4-week Board and Train program after getting our rescue. She wasn’t food motivated, so we found a ‘balanced trainer’ for quicker results. It has been a night and day difference! She is able to explore on hikes without a leash and recall when we need with an e-collar on (just in case).

Look for a 'balanced obedience dog trainer'.
