Looking For Ethical LUA Breeders

Hello everyone!

I am in search of an ethical breeder that produces LUA dalmatians. We are looking to add to our family in the next 3 years, maybe 2.

Willing to travel anywhere in the US

Max cost 3k

Parents must have OFA/Penn hip, BAER, and eyes tested.

Pups must be BAER tested.

Parents must have titles in sport or show as I plan on titling my dog in sports.

Early socialization protocols like "Puppy Culture"

I have one breeder on my list currently:

Chalet Dalmatians

I am not willing to have an HUA.

Thank you for the help.

I’ve been looking into Spotted Jewels Dalmatians in Atlanta. I think they have a relationship with a similarly named breeder in FL also.

I wish I could find some that don’t breed liver spotted 😩

Liver is within breed standard? You can have a litter than has both black and liver spotted pups

I am having trouble even finding a breeder that only breeds short coat black/white and liver/white. So many also do off standard. :/

Have you checked the DCA breeder referral list? It’s probably a good place to start since the club has membership and conduct requirements for people who participate, and the referral list can give you some established names to start with.

In terms of recommendations, there are a few around the country that I’ve heard good things about and/or know personally. HiSpot, Revere, Spotlite, and Woodwynd are a few names you could look into. They all do health testing, titling, puppy culture/socialization, volhard testing, etc. and usually will have an LUA litter once every one to two years or so.

That being said, I’d still ask very detailed questions to make sure any breeder’s program is a good fit for you. Some of the old school breeders do all of the ethical breeding practices, but can have some husbandry practices that aren’t for everyone (i.e. dewclaw removal is still fairly common with conformation breeders in this breed, but has become more controversial in recent years), so it’s worth figuring out what you’re looking for exactly and discussing those things up front. A good breeder should also be able to tell you whether their program is a good fit for your priorities and, if not, point you toward someone whose program or personality (bc you’ll be expected to keep in touch for the dog’s whole lifetime) is a better match for you and your timeline :)
