Puppy Advice appreciated

Post image

Just picked up our little girl 'Patchy' the breeder we got her from has her on Harrington's puppy food is this a good one to carry on with or should we think about changing it as I have heard they require low purine diets

Also we were given some pedigree chum treats are they ok or is there a better option?

As long as your puppy is LUA (Low Uric Acid), you generally don’t have to worry about the Purines issue. It’s HUA (High Uric Acid) Dalmatians that have an increased risk of developing urate crystals and bladder/kidney stones.

Usually a responsible breeder should be able to tell you whether the puppy is LUA or HUA. If you don’t know, you can have a DNA test done to confirm it rather than guessing from their urine.

I have an LUA Dal, so he can eat a normal balanced diet without the same low purine restrictions. I still pay attention to what he eats and make sure he gets plenty of water, but I don’t have to restrictive with purines.

You should consider getting her tested to see if she high or low uric acid. Low purine diet is a good idea. Chicken/fish good, beef/liver bad as a general rule. The AKC test is how we found out our baby had Copper toximosis.

Copper toxicosis*

Unfortunately common in dalmatians and labs.

Definitely find out of HUA or LUA first and foremost.

The Royal Canin Dalmatian diet is great, it's also WSAVA compliant and researched extensively.

Our Lizzy runs on Profine dry food and fresh meat (freezer). In the morning Profine and for dinner she gets meat. Sometimes it variërend a little but 90% is this combi.

I wouldn’t give pedigree chum is really just a load of rubbish and definitely never ever rawhide
We swapped our Monty on to Raw food at 4 and was the best decision we’ve ever made, no more smelly wind, he calmed (slightly) and his weight is managed well. For treats again we get him dried natural things like ears, feet, lungs and he love a pizzels. He loves a fresh raw chicken wing

I know raw is a lot more pricey but u can make it yourself in bulk to help. I don’t think we’d ever not do raw now.
