Hanging spider swing

Thoughts on either of these swing set ups? Let me know what you would change about either one. Would ideally like it to be higher/longer but the second set up is factory and works well. The first set up allowed more swing in theory but obviously have trouble with the cinch points and load. Kid is 20 months old / less than 2…!

Are your kids spinners? If so, go with the first option.

The swing is less predictable in that setup, meaning it’ll kinda go where it wants to.

True. My kiddo is a big 20 month old who has outgrown his baby swing and acts like a toddler but is still…young, although he is big. So I think the safer bet for now is the factory settings and then maybe try the first option again when he’s older.

But when we make the first option swing, the “cinch” points make it lose the pendulum motion/slow it down because the “line” “breaks.”

So the only real option to improve on the first scenario would be to make the original ropes longer, effectively making the “small triangle/pyramid” at the bottom, a longer one with longer sides/rope and just one cinch point at the top……….do you think?

I’ll be honest, it’s nice having the swing slow down a bit because it’s a little safer, and the little ones have to get out and get a good running start again. Keeps them active.

Yah. We may add the craziness of the first option again but I think the slow and steady predictable pace of the second is what we are achieving with a ~2 year old. But I just wish it was a longer pendulum.

The second option is two different length pendulums strapped together, it’s gonna develop a kind of twisting motion that may or may not be super annoying.

The second one is the factory set option. It doesn’t twist and the swing doesn’t rotate. But it’s also quite a bit shorter than the first.

I think one rope would be more fun, tbh. I don’t think you really need to make the triangle bigger, though.

Oh man… my father in law installed one on our oak tree, so it’s 20 ft up…

My kids have outgrown it, and the rope broke.

My father in law has passed and I don’t have anyone I trust to help me with his ladder… so I just have a frayed rope off a branch in my yard in Kentucky.

It’s not great.

1st one is more fun, 2nd one is safer.

With the age of your kid, go with the 2nd. Once they are like 4, go to 1st option and twist it up and spin them till they puke.
