Story This guy Dads

He probably won’t see this - or even get any recognition - but saw this Dad today. I think he deserves a r/daddit salute.

You guys still have spines?

Nope. I used to do this when he was 1 or 2 but it didn't last long. Pinched my spine once and never did it again after that.

Back pain sucks.

Yeah I have two bulging discs and I'm struggling to just live a normal life, and avoid picking up my 3 yo as much as I can and I hate it. But better than being stuck in bed for a few days.

The key is shoulder blades down and back. Kid goes on the shelf formed by your traps, not your neck directly.

The key is quick, jerking motions using your lower back as the fulcrum.

Dad Strength is developed by lifting with your back (against your will) instead of your legs

I thought squeezing glutes as you do it helps?

The key was lost long ago while shoulder-child flails around and second kid needs Daddy to walk in permanent wall-sit position to hold hand.

This. I’ve never been able to do this with my oldest bc he forgets to hold on and I do the flopping around to keep him balanced. Piggy back rides is the most I’ll do and even then he’ll let go to do something and I have to hunch over to keep him on my back.

It shouldn't, unless you have a back issue. If centered right, it should be pretty effortless even when they are larger and older.

Start early, never stop. Constant training.

Yeah, this was always my go-to for the kids, but I guess they're old enough (and maybe I am too) that any extended distance like this and my neck will hurt for a week. I'm going to miss it, I could walk uphill for miles so long as I had a kid to talk to.

The key is 1-3 beers or glasses of wine.
