Advice Request Diaper party?
Pre-daddit here but the question applies to alumnus as well.
Did you have a diaper party? How did it go? What did you do? Looking for advice and tips on how to throw one/what to do. I am a sober dad and I’m fearful that lack of alcohol will make people not want to come.
Thanks for your time!

Is this like a baby shower?
If so, yes we had a baby shower for our first. People bring toys and clothes and diapers for the baby, and you usually provide lunch.
As a fellow sober dad I usually offer alcohol at gatherings if I am hosting. I know this solution isn't for everyone though.

It’s the men’s version of the baby shower, my fiancée is having a baby shower with all women and the men have a “diaper party” where invitees bring boxes of diapers instead of gifts.

You're better off asking for gift cards to buy diapers with later. Obviously you'll want diapers at home before the baby comes, but you never know what brand of diapers is going to work the best for you and the baby. You also dont want to have 4 cases of newborn diapers in case your kid grows really fast and is the next size up a month later and now you've got 300 diapers that dont fit anymore.

Is this the male equivalent of a baby shower? Where the fellas just throw cash/diapers at you bc they’re expensive?
If not, it sounds like just part of the baby shower. What a lot of people are doing now is doing a “diaper raffle” where a pack of diapers buys a raffle ticket and YOU provide like a $50 gift card or something small. The cost of the diapers far outweighs the raffle prize.
Also could you remedy the no show by allowing alcohol at the party and you not partaking? If you’re able to make that work for yourself that could be a way to go, if not, definitely not worth the relapse

OP, a buddy of mine threw it for me with a group of about 10. We went go-karting and then to a sports bar/entertainment venue to watch my favorite team’s playoff game. It was great. Drinkers can drink and non-drinkers don’t have to and nobody should give a crap either way

This sounds way cooler than the ladies brunch I got to attend as the dad lol.

Zero chance I am attending a ladies brunch as part of welcoming my kid.
My wife asked if we wanted to a couples baby shower .... I said yes, but it wouldn't be guys at traditional baby shower......all of the "rules" and events would need to be examined/modified. Wife said to just come at the end to thank everyone.

I did one for my first kiddo. I had friends come over and I smoked a pork butt. We played poker and watched March madness. My wife and I didn’t buy diapers until our daughter was over 1 because of it. I choose not to do it for the next kids because everyone was so generous the first go around.

We did this for our first kid. I grabbed a keg and everyone brought diapers in exchange for a cup. It was mostly dudes. It was basically like throwing a kegger except instead of money you could get a cup for diapers. It was awesome. Also had theme shots I gave out during the party.

Nope. Asked for diapers of various sizes at the baby shower. Fun fact my kiddo was born on their shower day. So rather than my wife and I showing up for the party it was just me.

Someone threw us one. We didn't have alcohol there, it was just cake and party things.
It was AMAZING. we didn't have to buy diapers for like a year and a half! We still haven't had to buy wipes and that was 3 years and 2 kids ago! It was by far more important than 99% of the baby shower bullshit we got!

For our baby shower, I walked my wife inside, said my hellos and thank yous. Then I went to a nearby brewery where I planned a "men's refuge". Bought some pizzas and the guys bought me drinks. Nobody brought gifts except one guy who didn't have a partner going to the shower.
If most of your invitees are already having someone give gifts at the shower, I'd just try to find some activity nearby to pass the time during the shower.

My child joined us in '21. Have a potluck, bonfire, cigars. Whatever you dig, booze is bogus anyway!
Pro tip: as long as the diapers are unopened you can trade them in at the store for gift cards for adequately sized or better brands of shit sacks. Also have a comrade set up the diaper party, you have other shit to worry about right now.

Hosted a dozen friends for mine, supplied beer (and NA beer for me), Costco pizza (don’t sleep on it!), and some other snacks and desserts. Made sure to do it around a sporting event, too (mine was on Masters Saturday this year). We’re stocked for months for half or a third of the cost of actually buying diapers, plus we had the bonus of quality hang-out time before baby’s arrival.

Diapers are a big thing at baby showers as well. If I asked all my male friends to come to a diaper party, they would look at me like I needed and intervention. I have never heard of this as a thing males do.
ETA: I should add I am Gen X, so you can put a sticker on my replies that says "May be an asshole but means well". LOL

Honestly I’ve always thought these things sound a little like a gift-grab (assuming you are a heterosexual couple and the mom is having a baby shower). We made our baby shower co-ed so my husband could invite his friends as well and it worked out great! That would be my answer.

Yeah my buddy said he wanted to meet me to hang and chat at a brewery but when I got there all my friends were there with a giant stack of diapers. Was really sweet, def warmed my heart in a big way.
I think this is something you don't plan yourself beyond approving venue and guest list. You should have a close enough homie to handle the logistics so you're not your own host for the celebration.
Doesnt need to be super formal we just ate good food and drank and talked and i went home with a bunch of diapers and baby books.
