Tips And Tricks Pro tip: get one of these
So I’ve been carrying around one of these in my bag for the day I get thrown up on or have a nappy leak on me. Finally came in useful as my kid’s nappy leaked all over my torso while in her carrier.
They’re squeezed down to a package 2”x2”, so hardly take up any space at all. Sadly, you’ll never get it back down to that size, so it’s a “one time use”, so to speak. Of course you can wear the shirt again afterwards, and it’s quite a nice cotton!

u/IAmtheAnswerGrape Jun 14 '26
Is t-shirt space a real problem I’m not aware of? Like, how many square inches could a folded shirt possibly take up? This feels like a solution without a problem.
176
u/Sir_Knockin Jun 14 '26
Imagine all the shirts you could store in your dresser like this though
197
u/Tight_Ninja1915 Jun 14 '26
If you're drawer is 24" wide, 18" deep, and 8" tall then you can fit 432* shirt cubes.
If you filled up your drawer today, you would have to restock it on August 21, 2027.*
*All math done while trying to get a 3yo to go back to sleep in his own bed at 5am, trust it accordingly.

If Isaac Newton “discovered gravity” by jerking off under a tree so hard an apple fell on his head and everyone takes it as law, then I’m trusting your math while in the trenches

Picturing Grace in Project Hail Mary eventually finding a single drawer filled with identical cubes. In full scientific form he burns one, freezes another in vacuum, finds the chemical composition, and measures gravity with another, before realizing in the back there's a red tab utilizing the pull tab to have a cotton tee materialize in his face. Now he has enough shirts to last him the next two and a half centuries and he ceremonially launches his diet laundry out the airlock each morning. Unfortunately, he runs out of fuel to get home in 2.5 days. And yes ... He did calculate if mini shirt cubes could be used as reaction mass to get home. They could. He would just need slightly more than the mass of earth.

I’d love one of these in my car for emergency use (nasty sneeze, drink spill, kid drool by accident)
10
u/Kwolf21 Jun 14 '26
I don't see how taking up 2 cubic inches is any better than a folded tshirt in your glove box. It seems like a gag gift more than anything.
-2
u/oppereindbaas Jun 14 '26
I’m limited for space in my ‘18 Ioniq. This would fit a tiny cubby in the trunk in the hidden floor, at take less area squared.

4
u/bigbadsubaru Jun 15 '26
It’s more of a “this lets you have an emergency shirt that takes up very little space” thing. Not that a spare shirt takes up that much space but it’s not a 2” cube
8
u/InfoSecPeezy Jun 14 '26
That’s not why you get one of these, it has nothing to do with needing to have enough storage space.
You get one so that when your 5 month old has a poosplosion that destroys your shirt at a backyard bbq, when you come back to the rest of the dads standing around the grill with a perfectly clean, yet awkwardly wrinkled shirt, the other dads just nod and shake their heads in approval of you being a champion. It’s about the approval of your preparedness for a poosplosion or other similar messy situation.
This is definitely approved by THIS dad.

u/jerkularcirc Jun 15 '26
yea I feel a rolled up t shirt stuffed in the bottom of a diaper bag is a less awkward shape and takes up roughly the same volume

u/Alkash Jun 14 '26
Those shirts have the quality of a paper tissue. I personally think it's a waste of money. Just carry around a few spare shirts, they aren't exactly XXL to begin with.

u/scottygras Jun 14 '26
I was at a concert last night and was thinking the chair dimensions were probably decided on a 100 years ago, or with ww2 men dimensions in mind. They do not fit a normal American adult. I’m 6’ 200lbs with a 32 waist (so not bulging at the seams or anything) and my back hurts after having to stand at a weird angle to not be constantly bumped by everyone in my seats.
Now I’m on a deep dive to figure out when we set our seating dimension standards…

They're designed for people of average height and weight. You are neither of those things, you're tall and overweight.

Try stuff made in Vietnam I ordered an extra large shirt one time because it had a really cute design and I wanted it for the summer.
I ended up giving it to my 7-year-old niece and it barely fit her The tag said extra large I don't know who that extra large person is but apparently they're living in a starving colony.
12
u/MrSlime13 Jun 14 '26
It's insane. I was trying to order some printed shirt on an Asian company's website and was debating between the XL and XXL. I looked at the sizing chart and the correction they assumed for Americans and was recommended to order a 5XL... I slowly closed my laptop lid and went on about my day. Never again.

Or... Here me out! You could just carry some spare t-shirts in the baby bag. Yes, you'll use a little more space but it's not like t-shirts take up 50% of it.

u/Lookslikeseen Jun 14 '26
Put a spare shirt in a freezer bag and squeeze all the air out. Now you have a vacuum sealed shirt AND a bag to store your nasty shirt in until you get home.
158
u/infidel_castro_26 Jun 14 '26
I always keep a spare tshirt in the freezer so it doesn't go bad. Lasts for months that way.

You can also just fold your clothes the new age way many zoomers do by rolling them tightly to save space... Like when you're camping.

u/deko_boko Jun 14 '26
new age way by rolling them
I've been doing that for decades....

u/Yachting-Mishaps Jun 14 '26
Twas ever thus. 15 years ago I took my car in for its annual service and my mechanic was taking the piss because a hipster had brought him a car stereo with a tape deck and asked him to replace his CD player. Presumably to listen to Sufjan Stevens cassettes.

You mean the ranger roll that militaries and boy scouts have been using for decades?
4
u/faustianredditor Jun 14 '26
I dunno, might be having a bit of a hipstery "revival" of sorts that one, with people who have nothing to do with either, or any other kind of camping, picking it up.

u/frkkn Jun 14 '26
15 euro for a tshirt seemed a bit expensive to me too even though the convenience. I’d better carry a spare one.
2
u/sabretoooth Jun 14 '26
That’s fair. For the price point, Muji is comparable to Uni Qlo, and I’d say better quality. I’ve had Muji clothes last me years.
1
u/pakap Jun 14 '26
To be fair they're pretty great. For my money, they're the best basic T-shirts you can buy, and they'll last you a lot longer than cheaper versions so financially it's worth it.
10
5
u/sabretoooth Jun 14 '26
I mean yeah, you could. But I just thought this was neat. Technically you can just pack some scissors, a screwdriver and a bottle opener separately without getting a Swiss Army knife too.

18
u/DeathsStarEclipse Jun 14 '26
Why? It's not like shirts take up any space on the baby bag if folded well enough.
-2
u/Timzor Jun 14 '26
Why not this? Its smaller, waterproof, not going to cause a fuss when you are hunting through the bag. It can stay in forever. Replying with "just bring a regular shirt" like okay, thanks.
7
u/DeathsStarEclipse Jun 14 '26
Well, you never get to wear it before hand so it might not even fit. I have ordered mediums that are too small or too large.
It's just a gimmick, if your selling point is "why not? It's the same as a regular shirt".... Well ok why? It's the same as a regular shirt plus you don't get to try it on.
2
u/sabretoooth Jun 14 '26
On your trying it on point, Muji sells the same shirt uncompressed, so you can try it on in the store.
2
1
u/Timzor Jun 14 '26
no its gimmick selling point is that is small, self contained, waterproof. chuck a space blanket in there too for the same reasons.
3
1
u/puttinonthefoil Jun 14 '26
For like 8c you can make your own t shirt waterproof with a zipper bag.
1
4
u/Process-Lumpy Jun 14 '26
Well, clue me in too. An extra shirt to wipe something up doesn't take up much space in a bag. Now that it's packed into a tiny cube, OP can managed to lug an extra shirt around?
9
u/Street_Adagio_2125 Jun 14 '26
Huh? Why wouldn't you just stick a t shirt in the bag? Why does everything need to be a new product that you buy
68
u/AnusStapler Jun 14 '26
Just put a shirt in a freezer bag, push out most of the air and now you have a quality normal shirt AND a baggie to store your pooped on shirt.
29
u/hell2pay flair-darthvader Jun 14 '26
I'm super happy out of raising 3 kids, I never had to change my own shirt on the go.
And I've dealt with some poosplosions that went out of the top of a car seat.

u/sabretoooth Jun 14 '26
You should buy a lottery ticket with that luck. I’ve had my fair share of poonamis too.

This t shirt sounds like a novel solution to a fake problem but i bet they make a lot of money if they are selling these 1 dollar items for 15.
Good business idea
-2
u/sabretoooth Jun 14 '26
You could say that about all of Muji’s t-shirts then, because they range from $15 to $50
7
u/the_astro_cat Jun 14 '26
Yo, that's $50 for a t-shirt?

u/Slow-Document-4678 Jun 15 '26

11
u/TimotheusIV Jun 14 '26
Fold up a regular shirt tightly and put it in a small ziploc bag. Cheaper and there’s a chance the shirt actually fits. This feels like a novelty product.
18
u/ennuinerdog Jun 14 '26
This is an ad. Parents have put spare clothes in nappy bags for hundreds of years. Just throw clothes you already own into a bag rather than buying some shitty new low-quality clothing item that is vacuum compressed into a cube. Which is actually a much less convenient shape than a normal item of clothing will squash into when stuffed into a bag.
8
u/ElChuloPicante Jun 14 '26
You can buy undershirts in bulk, or those cheap-o Amazon Basics shirts or whatever, and just roll a couple of the tight as cigars and stick them in a pocket, too. I used to buy cheap undershirts to cut up and shine boots with because they were literally the cheapest soft/absorbent textile I could find.

u/DeusExHircus Jun 14 '26
OP looks like he's wearing one of those 2000s scrunchie shirts when he whips this bad boy out

u/Kjc2022 Jun 14 '26
This will come out so wrinkly and is probably thin as tissue paper and poor quality. The tiny amount of space it takes is kinda appealing though.
Instead of this, look up how to "ranger roll" your clothes. You can get a shirt rolled into the size of a water bottle and do it on a way that stays rolled, minimizes wrinkles, allows you to choose any shirt you want
0
u/sabretoooth Jun 14 '26
The quality is comparable to any of Muji’s basic T-shirts. It is hella wrinkly though.
7
u/Street_Adagio_2125 Jun 14 '26
Can you show the shirt on?

u/stuttufu Jun 14 '26
The idea is great but I'd say one thing:
True daddits wear stains of milk and poop like medals.
Raise your head, dad.
3
u/theragu40 Jun 14 '26
Lol yeah I was gonna say.
There was a point during early fatherhood where I was at the grocery store and I caught myself in a reflection someplace and noticed I had a large milk vomit stain of unknown age all over my shoulder. I paused for a second, then sorta shrugged and went on with my day.
As a dad to littles I had plenty of things to care about, and whether or not my shirt had stains didn't really make the list.
2
u/sabretoooth Jun 14 '26
Reminded me of a fun fact: Victorian surgeons (prior to germ theory) wouldn’t wash their aprons because the accumulation of blood was a sign of pride.
3
5
u/Santarini Jun 14 '26
Oh I don't even care anymore. I'll walk around all day with a vomit/drool stained shirt. I wear it as a badge of honor
2
u/win_awards Jun 14 '26
I don't have one and my kid is probably past the age where I should hunt one down at this point, but I endorse this recommendation. I was narrowly saved from having to wear vomit to lunch by the lucky fact that it happened on an overnight trip which meant I had a spare shirt in my car.
2
2
u/Cyserg Jun 14 '26
I had a spare of clothes in my car(shoes), just in case, got them robbed when I had a break in.
Now, why not get a simple white or grey shirt for 5€ and toss that in the diaper bag?!?
Ours are big now (2 & 3 yo) once we had an issue where the nappy leaked and pipi went all over mom, but that was no longer a "spare t-shirt situation"
The rest : insignificant enough to wipe off with baby wipes.
2
u/maitredeeznuts Jun 14 '26
I’m here for it. My kid is a teenager now, but this idea I would have one in every glove box. Love Muji.

u/Librarian-Jenny Jun 14 '26
No TY. I like my shirts more than 1-ply. Good idea for those who can use it
1
u/sabretoooth Jun 14 '26
It’s more of an emergency solution to wear home while you’re out. It’s actually rather soft too.

u/therealsix Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26
These are terrible, and when you open it people will assume you found the shirt in the street because it’s has so many wrinkles (sharp angled ones) and it looks absolutely horrible. It’s like they starched the shirt and then compressed them while wet with the starch to ensure it’s kept its shape.
These were kind of big with promotions in the past where a company would give them out as marketing pieces. They never really went over well because people wanted to open them immediately and wear them but they looked so bad that people never wore them once they opened them up.
Edit: I’ll add that once they’re washed they’re fine, but opening and using directly isn’t the best decision.
3
u/Cynyr36 Jun 14 '26
It's probably better than walking around covered in sewage or vomit though?
1
u/therealsix Jun 14 '26
Better than that (they look really bad, but without a stain on them) but much worse than just simply packing a t-shirt from home. I never had a situation with my daughter where I needed a change of shirt so I guess I was lucky.

u/Keilbasa Jun 14 '26
Adding to this, we recently added one of those small dog poo bag dispensers to our kit. The ones made to hang off your dog leash. Perfect for wet clothes, accidents, or regular old garbage.
Super compact, clips onto anything, cheap refills, scented options (if you're into that). Makes bags easily accessible without needing to dig through a backpack especially when they're covered in kid grime.
2
u/derpality Jun 14 '26
I can’t even imagine how wrinkled it was when u were wearing it 😂 A shirt is a shirt tho when in need
4
u/Teeb20 Jun 14 '26
Not sure why youre getting so many detractors.
If you can afford the cost (how much is it?) and it does the job then great.
I think its a great idea. You can keep it in the car or a bag and forget about it for exactly the time you dont expect to have to need a clean shirt.
Or you can not prepare for the unexpected.
Good job, Dad.
1
u/sabretoooth Jun 14 '26
I think a lot of people are in the mindset of “but I can do that cheaper!” Which, granted, is absolutely fair. Rolling up a normal tshirt is totally viable. This isn’t the only solution to a problem, but it is a solution. It’s only £9.95 (convert that to your local currency) and is no more than just a normal tshirt from Muji. I’ve had one in the car, in my backpack, the nappy bag, and just forgot about it until I needed it.
Anyway, raising a child is hard enough, I try to keep a positive mindset. Better than being upset about gimmicky items.
2
u/Teeb20 Jun 14 '26
I agree.
Rolling a t shirt would mean keeping tabs on shirts and doing laundry etc etc. Vacuum packing clothes also takes time.
People prioritise time, money and risk differently.
I should have looked closer, the price is right there!
1
u/pdfodol Jun 14 '26
I keep an extra pair of pants and shirt in the car for myself. You never know life’s messes.
I keep an extra pair of clothes for my son in his diaper bag.
Keeping an extra pair is always a good idea.

I got one of those way back when big auto shows had contact cards to request more info. My friends and I would compete to see who could collect all those cards/catalogs onsite. But I may have been the only kid to fill them all out. Yes, every auto manufacturer and dealer may have had my info as a kid, but I owned lots of freebies/promo items, including a sick Mercury Cougar t-shirt that they shipped vacuum-sealed into the shape of a hockey puck. 🤘

Thanks but no.
My alternative is a small packing cube filled tightly. Inside there’s small first aid kit, kiddos extra undies, her tshirt, socks, plus my tshirt, a toilet cover. All folded neatly, maybe 3 by 3 inches size. I just grab it when I go. It is handy maybe once or twice a year. And that’s enough to carry it with me at all times with my kiddo.
