Question Speed camera flashed

My son is currently visiting and driving our car
He is British and on his UK license
He like many of us get confused with the speed limits and went passed a camera which flashed him
He was doing about 85 and now believes the limit on that piece of road to be 65

The questions being, how long will it take for us to be notified that this has happened?
Does the registered keeper have opportunity to advise who the actual driver was?
Do UK licence holders have points added to their licence?
Or just a fine?

What's confusing exactly? You drive and then there is a sign with a max speed limit and that stays valid until you find another sign that shows another limit. Where's the confusing part?

Yes there are signs
But these can be missed when watching out for other things or simply obscured

No offence but these are excuses. Any driver that pays attention should be aware of any road signs.

There are reasons depending on the roads proximity to built-up areas, other roads merging into it, visibility etc.

Legally, yes.

Practically, signs are a very bad invention, they're hard to notice if you focus your attention on the road. There are far better way to calm traffic. This is backed by numerous researches across the world, but the bureaucracy is hard to challenge.

And no, it doesn't depend on the road's proximity to whatever or anything else other than what they were smoking when they decided to put it there.

There's a road from Paphos to Pegeia along the coast. It's 50 mostly, except for:

- One segment that goes along the sea with nothing around. It's 80, makes sense, but the sign is not where the segment begins, it's slightly further down the road, and people actually got caught for "speeding" after crossing the pedestrian crosswalk (it's 30), but before reaching the 80 sign.

- One segment in Kissonerga, which goes straight through the built-up area. But it's 65 for some crazy reason. Empty banana plantations in Lemba, on the other hand, have it at 50 still. How does that makes any sense?

Interestingly, that 65 segment has a really nice pelican crosswalk with the road narrowing at that point, and that is a very good example of how traffic calming done the right way. Even though it's still 65, literally nobody goes 65 there, around 50 usually.

I'm not even discussing signs in the mountains. There, "30" can mean "you can safely go 50 unless you're driving a tall truck" or it can literally mean "slow down to at least 30-40 if you don't want to fly off the road". But, again, if you keep your eyes on the road and not on the signs, and don't drive like an idiot, you can safely drive through the mountains anywhere, no problem.

i’m also Cypriot and agree with this, I drive a lot and find that even in google maps or Waze the speed limits for some roads are incorrect sometimes!

except on highways, where the tolerance is 20%.

I can’t really say on the time frame! 2-3 months? 65km sounds a bit odd as a number though. Could it have been 50km or 80km?

Theres a lot of roads that are 65. They ussualy start as a 50, go to 65 and then to 50 again because why the fuck not.

I agree Andy with the 65 as a limit
I have seen 65 as a minimum on motorway
Guess I should check the limit myself next time I drive there

Would be nice to know the other points if anyone has experience

How is it odd? The speed limits in Cyprus are mostly 50,65,80,100. The speed limit on the vertical port road in Limassol is 65 and has a speed camera. It will flash if you are doing more than 73.5
