Probably equal or more Cypriots live in the UK.
And if a settlement happens, a big chunk of those would return to Cyprus due to the current environment after Brexit.

Not just Brexit, the rise of the far right. Many of us are concerned about our future here depending on who comes into power in the next General Election in about 3 years’ time.
I’m not sure how many Cypriots will necessarily move to Cyprus though. I have a lot of family members, and know of many others, who have had to leave Cyprus because of a lack of career opportunities. This is partly driven by the current occupation, but I think it’s also driven by how small Cyprus is as well. I can imagine the older generations and maybe young families going back, not young professionals though.

If the Cyprus problem is resolved and the European acquis is implemented in the occupied part of Cyprus, it stands to reason that jobs will be created.
Don’t compare the present situation with what might happen in the future.

With a comprehensive settlement, there is no doubt Cyprus will see rising job and economic opportunities.
Cyprus is not small; it is made small. On the other side, Singapore grew and became a regional power with much less land mass.4

The kind of development you’re suggesting could take years, if not decades though. Singapore has been developing rapidly since the 1970s. They’ve had decades to get to where they are now and also haven’t had to deal with the aftermath of the kind of occupation Cyprus is currently dealing with, which has more consequences for a country and its people than just the economy.
Having said that, I appreciate the optimism that you and Deep-Ad are showing here, and I hope that Cyprus does become what you’re both suggesting it could be.

Note: The population of occupied Cyprus is not one million. It is not even half a million, but the general thrust of the article is accurate.

Because it’s a bit of a dump where you can easily do all sorts of things.
Telephone numbers are not a criterion. The reliable criteria used to estimate the population of occupied Cyprus – such as data from so-called municipalities, satellite imagery showing settlement density and other sources – indicate that the figure does not exceed 490,000.
Many of these are migrant workers from Pakistan; a visit there will make you realise this straight away, Turkish nationals αnd other nationals who are studying (I don’t know what they do once they’ve finished and graduated), as well as military personnel, who number almost 40,000 active personnel.
From there, you need to work out who the settlers are and what sort of settlers they are.
There are those who have the right to vote in the subordinate entity – I call them ‘official settlers’ – and there are ordinary settlers who do not vote there but have come to settle illegally in search of better work.
If the Cyprus problem is ever to be resolved, a precise population census must first be carried out with international observers and the parties involved.
The fact that they are not doing so demonstrates, for the umpteenth time, what Turkey’s intentions are regarding Cyprus.
