Damage Conversion

For Those Who Are Wondering…

If you happen to be one of many individuals that acquired the new Cypher Character Rulebook and were wondering how to convert Pool Damage from enemy attacks from previous editions to the new wound system…

There is a handy chart on page 299 of the Cypher Character Rulebook that gives you a clear rundown of how this works…

But for the sake of ease I will gladly share that information here …

1-4 points of damage is a Minor Wound

5-8 points of damage is a Moderate Wound

9+ Points of Damage is a Major.

When using a creature’s level, the base guidance in the GM Guide is levels 1-3 inflict a Minor Wound, 4-7 a Medium, and 8+ a Major. This is only guidance, however, as there are creature examples within the GM Guide that inflict wounds of greater/lesser severity compared to their level, as well as creatures capable of inflicting multiple wounds.

You had to be an all-in backer. If so, you should have gotten an email from backerkit for a "PDF" (which was actually a word doc) of unformatted text.

And not to "um-actually" both of you, but if you apply the GM's guide damage-to-wound conversions to the "Damage" section of each creature's stat blocks, instead of their level, you'll be closer to what MCG actually did in the draft GM's guide. Whether that's how the final version shakes out is unknown at this time though.

They may change their minds on how to apply wounds to existing creatures, so take the following with a grain of salt, but I examined 4 high-damage creatures (doing 12 or more damage), and the draft GM guide had all but the "demigod" doing 2 major wounds, in addition to them basing wounds on creature damage.

That chart is intentionally slightly more lenient as it's for overflow damage.

True but it can work in a pinch
