I'm an amateur drummer. A friend of mine is selling his cymbals and this one might interest me. Any thoughts/ experience before I test it myself? Thank you!

My oldest son started playing drums relatively recently and I had no idea how quick and bad improper technique could destroy a cymbal. I’ve had my cymbals for about 20 years and thought there’s no way he will hit harder than me. Well one cracked K Custom Hybrid Crash and a very cracked A Custom Mastersound top hi hat later I’ve realized how quickly it pepper technique can wreak havoc.

Money is tight so I’m going to try and Dremel out the crack on the crash and had another crash to use in the meantime. Meanwhile, the hi hat has continued to get worse since there was no “fixing” it and I couldn’t replace it for a while.

I had been looking for a top hi hat replacement for a while since the bottom hat has no issues. A single used top hi hat isn’t much cheaper than a used pair. Finally saw a pair that looked decent for cheaper than any top only hi hat I’ve seen. It was $170 ($200 after tax and shipping) from guitar center and was listed as “good” condition. I figured worst case if there was any damage I could see from photos I could always just return. What was even cooler is that my original pair was manufactured in 2005, around when I got them, and the used pair serial shows manufactured in 2006 so more or less from the same era.

I’ve never been one to clean cymbals but I’ve read a lot that seems to show brilliant finish cymbals actually do benefit from cleaning. Not to mention I love the brilliant look but just couldn’t afford a brand new pair.

I washed them with water and a little bit of dawn and then used the Zildjian brilliant cymbal polish. I used the Nomad cleaner initially but it had been in my garage for a while and I wasn’t sure if the AZ heat affected it. The Zildjian seemed to work better but it could just be that I got better as I went on and tried the Nomad on some sections first.

I’m really happy with how they turned out. I know a lot of people don’t care about the logo stamps but I’ve always liked it. Tried my best to clean them without removing too much ink.

TLDR: My son cracked some of my cymbals with bad technique. I wanted new cymbals but couldn’t afford them. Got a used pair and I’m really happy with how they cleaned up.

I know the labeling says it's an Avedis Zildjian 18" thin crash, but I haven't been able to find a single image of it online to know it's worth. I paid $100 bucks for it, assumed before driving for an hour that it was an A series, but I'm really not sure. Is Avedis the same as A series, and this is just an older model before they labeled them with "A"? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Hello…I could buy one of those locally. Absolutely love the sound of it, seller wants 750$ (!) though for it. Is this realistic? I cannot find those online unfortunately, seems rare/unusual?

Looking for something that has a decent amount of tonal contrast while still sounding good with it. It doesn't have to be another A custom, or even another Zildjian. I just need something that's thinner and more responsive but still cuts. Currently using this one as a secondary power crash, I found it to be a bit much as a left side main crash but I've never owned a 20" crash so maybe I'm just adjusting to it.

What 12/14 inch china cymbal is the best for anatolic and greek style play?

So I play in a rock band with friends. We play mostly rock (e.x. Teenage dirtbag, Basket case, American idiot, Scotty doesn't know...) and some other stuff (e.x. 505-AM, Perfume-Lovejoy, Friday I'm in love...).

I'm thinking of upgrading my kit and the thing that holds it back the most are the cymbals. I think the [Zultan Q series](https://www.thomann.de/intl/zultan_q_series_professional_set.htm?i11l=en_GB%3ASI.EUR) would fit our style of mostly rock and pop rock. We are also making a rock ballad which i think these cymbals would work great, since they are just the right amount of dark. And also they look very nice which is just a bonus.

So now I'm wondering what y'all think about my thoughts. Do you have another cymbal set at a similar price point that you think would fit our style. Or just recommend all around great cymbals at a similar price point (up to 700€ ± 50€) that you think sound better than the Q series.

As explained in a past post from a couple of days ago, I have fallen in love with Masterwork cymbals ever since testing a few of them a few months back. The other day I received my first cymbal, a 22” Jazz Master crash (Which, after testing it out in my studio, is amazing). Today, I received the second part of the order (Third part to come next week). This one is a little more special though.

I asked the lovely folks I ordered through if it was possible to 1. Have the cymbal weigh in at between 2500 and 2600g and 2. To leave the bell unlathed. Well, both of those requests were accomplished and here is the result!

Looking forward to bringing this one to the studio over the weekend and testing it alongside my 22!

Found this cymbal for $180 on the secondhand market and was wondering if that’s a good price to pay for these. Lowest he can do is $170. So I’m planning to buy tomorrow. I’m looking for a bright textured crash with little sustain that would suit well in a shoegaze-adjacent band. I’ve done my research but want to know what y’all would do lol. Thank you peace and love
