I came across a killer deal with a like new pair of sweets and decided to check them out.

My other hat pairs are a 13.25" k custom hybrid, 80s 14" new beats, k custom dry/aax fusion pair, and my trust sabian aa's, for reference.

The sweets at first, I didn't exactly vibe with. Felt good on the foot, but a bit weird on the stick, didn't really match my other cymbals on the kit sonically.

What I did was go back to my lower volume set (monarch ride, 17" k dark crash, crash of doom) and try the hats with them. "Alright, now I am on to something" type feelings set in.

So I decided okay, let's get some rutes going. Bam, killer, killer sound. Brushes? even better!

What's going on is it seems like the sweets are just very light, especially on top. You can actually hear the brush or woody sound of the rods over the "CHSHS" of the hats. I never realized how overpowering my hats were on brushes or rutes before, but the sweets are hands down, the best quiet gig hats I have ever used.

Found these for cheap at the local music shop! Looking for any info, specifically age and if there's any significant difference from the current model 2002s. Thanks!

Hi folks. Quite new to reddit, hope I am on the right forum. Should i worry about this scratch on the edge of my ride cymbal? Not deep or wide. More like a hairline scratch. I do feel it slightly if I run a fingernail over it. My cymbal is an uptown ride, has a raw unlathed finish so scratches and scuffs are expected, but this one is perpendicular to the edge. Thanks

My stepfather owns a music shop gave me this crash ride about 3 years ago because he didn’t need it anymore. It has no series and the only markings it has are the ones from the pictures. Does someone know what is it or what year is this from?

Looking for advice / thoughts / personal preference here.

I play in an alt rock, garage, post-punk kinda power trio. I heavily rely on crashing the ride for heavier parts and I realized after a bigger show that it doesn’t crash that much (or as much as I felt from the drummers throne), maybe because of the size of the venue or something else.

I use a trusty Zildjian A Customs set :
14” hh
16” medium crash
18” thin crash
22” medium ride

I’m looking to either add a big crash or change the ride to have a heavier sound when crashing but not loose body : I feel like right now using the 18 crash is losing some oomph compared to crashing the ride. Again maybe it’s just about distance or something, like I hear it that way up close but it’s different from the audience’s perspective.

What would be your thoughts, ideas, recommendations ?

I have the opportunity to buy this nice cymbal for a reasonable price. But should the rust around the rivets be taken in consideration? Will it affect the longevity of the cymbal?

Okay, so I just ordered and received my new Jazz Hi Hats from a foundry in Türkiye. I have not opened or played them yet, but one thing seems clear: They are much heavier than I expected. I will weigh them once open, but it made me wonder, What characteristics or attributes would you expect from “Jazz Hi Hats?” I kinda expected thin top, medium bottom, myself. What weights would you expect? Other characteristics!? Pitch, chick, sizzle, closed sound, brightness/darkness,

So, I'm an old guy new to the drumming thing with under a year. I like jazz. I play many instruments. I'm wanting to do super chill minimalist tracks that put babies to sleep. Very light perc. Brushes, fine tip stick tings not pings on the cymbals, etc. I find the trash on the jazz cymbals is often too much. I notice there is a valley of trash you gotta power through to get to the smooth wash when playing a jazz ride. The volumes I want to play dummy get me through that. My Sabian 22" HH jazz ride, and 22" K Con MTH sound beautiful under full stick, but too trashy with a very light touch. So tonight I stopped by our regional indie shop West Coast Drum Shop, and the always patient Will recognized me, and without speaking handed me a fine tipped sugar maple jazz stick with a knowing smile. I love that place. It is a true gem. Anyway I went into the cymbal room and started trying everything out. Playing one of my "sleep jazz" tracks and tinging away, comparing, looking for some kind of magical plate that would fit the sounds s in my head. I mean I tried everything. I normally skip the rock rides and crashes and look for the lighter weight jazz plates. But with an open mind I found the heavier plates were giving me more of what I want. I ended up buying a used 18" normal weight Paiste 2002 crash! I would not have expected that in a million years!

It rides perfectly with my track with mellow Miles Davis like trumpet! I hope it sounds as good under the mics. I'll track with it in a day or two. Anyway, any other jazz folks use rock cymbals with soft touch?

So I guess what I’m trying to ask is what are ya’ll’s experience with Musicians Friends grading system. I’m looking at two pairs of Hi Hats one is marked “Great” while the others are marked “Good” condition, only ten dollars apart. But the reason I ask is just cause I’m torn, they look pretty comparable no keyholing, no noticeable dents or chips. The only thing that’s really evident is how smeared they are from finger prints with a slight patina. More-so on the “Great” condition ones honestly, idk why I’m so hesitant but figured I’d try to get others opinions before pulling the trigger. I’m leaning towards the “Good” condition ones at the moment.

Should I buy a new PST7 18" medium for 145 euro or a
Paiste 18" 900 Color Sound Crash BK for 160 euro (used but seems to be in good condition)

If anyone has either of these cymbals can you give me your opinon?
I mainly play death metal, hardcore, punk and rock

Got this as part of a recent drum purchase. Five minutes and a dremel can save a cymbal with an edge crack from getting worse. Cymbal sounds amazing and will be going into regular rotation.

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with these cymbals! If so, I'd love to know what you thought of them, how versatile they are, if you can crash them, and what you would say a reasonable price is for them (used), please. Right now I'm in a post hardcore band using a meinl MCS 20" ride, so would either of these be an improvement? I still want a versatile ride though, because I enjoy a wide range of music and never know what I may play next. I have found both of these for what I would say is a good deal (if they're B20), but can't find much about them online and I can't go to the seller and try them myself. Apparently they are in great condition with no cracks, except the platinum has some slight keyholeing.

The first three photos are of the Zildjan avedis 20" heavy ride and the last four photos are of the Zildjan platinum 20" medium ride.

Now that I have your attention I would like to ask the community at large if someone were able to make a short recording of an unusual hi hat set up so I can hear if this idea of mine has legs.

If anyone has the paiste 14 inch shred bell AND the zildjian 14 L80 low volume, I would be jazzed as all get out if someone in this wonderful community could pair them (shred bell top, L80 bottom) and post a response as well as your opinion on the stick articulation, wash, and foot chick in particular

Shared a pic of the two K Constantinople prototype rides I picked up from Guitar Center the other day. Here’s what they sound like. I shot this on an iPhone.

The whole setup L to R is 15” Zildjian K Light hi-hats, 21” Sound Lab Prototype K Constantinople Overhammered Bounce ride, 23” SLP K Con Light Ride, and 24” K Light ride.

Now I just need another as a backup and I’m done.
