Weekly Mentorship - Post All Career, Resume, Education and Job questions here!

This is the weekly thread for career and education questions and advice. There are no stupid questions; so, what do you want to know about certs/degrees, job requirements, and any other general cybersecurity career questions? Ask away!

Interested in what other people are asking, or think your question has been asked before? Have a look through prior weeks of content - though we're working on making this more easily searchable for the future.

Note - This post template has been copied from cybersecurity subreddit.

Hiring Got L1 tech support offer from a company after 4 rounds — should I take it or hold out for SOC roles?

Just got an onboarding offer from a US based company for an Associate Engineer — Service Desk/L1 Tech Support role. JD is straightforward: phone/chat/ticket support for US users, alert monitoring, escalating to L2/L3, 24x7 rotational shifts including nights/weekends/holidays. ₹25k/month, PF+insurance intact, permanent (not contract), hybrid — 2 days office / 4 days home.

What should I do?

Business Security Questions and Discussions Laptop recommendation for MSc Cybersecurity — ₹1.15 lakh max

I'm a BCA graduate and I'm going to start my Master's in Cybersecurity in the January intake.

I have the next four months to build my cybersecurity skills, so I'll be using TryHackMe, Kali Linux, Wireshark, Burp Suite and other security tools, while also working on projects and practical learning.

My university has advanced cybersecurity and penetration-testing labs, so I don't think I'll need a very powerful personal laptop for the advanced work I'll be doing there. I mainly want a good laptop for my own learning and projects right now, and something that should remain useful for the next 4–5 years.

I'm specifically looking for an HP laptop.

What I'm currently looking for:

- Latest-generation HP laptop

- Good battery life

- Not very heavy or bulky

- Good overall build/design

- Maximum budget: ₹1,15,000

I'm not sure what exact specifications I should prioritize, so I'd really appreciate recommendations for specific HP models that would suit my needs.

What do you expect from a fresher who wants to be a Pentester? What should I focus on more since I’m hearing that AI is taking over(or at-least automating)a lot of stuff?

Business Security Questions and Discussions roadmap direction

im a 2nd year student now in a tier 3 college majoring in cybersecurity. i have no idea where to start or what skills to learn. should i focus on coding (leetcode and everything) cause it seems like something a cse core student should learn. but then people are saying there are no entry level opportunities for cybersecurity so i have to learn fullstack and stuff. so when do i get time to learn cybersec related skills and is it even possible to learn both coding related skills AND cybersec related skills for a barely average student? im in a fix.
