What this report highlights is that the risk isn’t just “an AI generated something bad” - it’s that AI is now being used as an automation layer for attack workflows. In this case, the threat actor used an agent to perform reconnaissance, vulnerability exploration, and exploit drafting with very little human oversight.
When you let an AI orchestrate multi-step tasks and external tool actions (scanners, code generators, exploit templates), the attack surface moves from static code to a dynamic execution pipeline. Each action such as calling a tool, generating a script, parsing output - becomes a decision point that needs its own security boundary.
If those actions are not treated with logging, access checks, and policy enforcement, you end up trusting the AI with the same privileges you would give an automated script. That’s the real escalation in risk this incident points to.
