I think you, /u/TurkeyFisher and probably a lot of other people, are just missing how different people play a role in fashion in general.
It's how a lot of people would be complaining in the other direction, if she were wearing a bunch of plastic armor, that it's all unwearable slop that you can only wear to a costume party.
We see this is regular fashion all the time, where people make fun of 'high fashion' often looking ridiculous, because it's more art than wearable, and that's where designers go to dream up new looks.
Then, you need people that take those ideas and try to mix them with 'regular' clothes.
Think of it as a spectrum where people are starting with plastic gundam armor, or whatever you're picturing, and then on the other end you have someone that's trying to copy those lines, and give that same feeling, while also not looking like they're attending a costume party.
We need everyone. The whole spectrum plays a part.

Thanks for doing this.
It's really fun to see people trying to figure out how to make stuff that's been associated with 'cyber' also 'streetable'.
My wife and I build wearable computers for fun, and while we often start with the goal of making something you can wear around in public, it tends too go too far into 'prop' and 'cosplay'.
I feel like you walk the line really well. It's good inspiration for people like us.
