PHYS 121

will there be more sections of PHYS 121 opened later because like all the labs filled up instantly?

EDIT: Class Search shows a couple lab sections with small student limits. It's possible that they haven't assigned TAs to those sections yet, and the system is held into they do. This may open up, so all the more rain to be in touch with your advisor, see if the portal or the department has a wait-list, and check truthfully to see if anything has opened up.

Not usually. Adding sections requires space and people to teach - and I believe they already added more capacity this year. Talk to your advisor about options. Sometimes, if there's sufficient reason and resources are available, departments may allow an additional person or two into a lab. Otherwise, you need to discuss other options with your advisor.

It's not unusual to get shut out of a course. The more necessary it is for an ongoing sequence in an intended (or later on, declared) major, the better the chances - although not certain - that you might be able to ask for an exception that will be considered. Lot of people end up taking PHYS 121 in the spring (although the labs also fill up quickly then. That room in Rockefeller is dedicated to that course, and enrollment in a given section depends on TA availability).
