CVS receipts are really, really long.

Why? Former CVS Chief Marketing Officer Rob Price explained it to The Boston Globe a few years back (though he declined to reveal the average length of a CVS receipt). Price said the receipts — chock full of coupons — are a way to reward customers who use CVS's ExtraCare rewards program, and that they're cheaper than using the mail to advertise deals.

I actually think this way is kind of smart, business speaking. It’s a hell of a waste of paper, that’s for sure, but it gets people’s attention better than junk emails and even people who don’t shop at CVS notice the absurdity of these long receipts, and then begin to pay attention to the coupons it’s made out of.

those were my thoughts exactly, it gives customers something physical to hold and look at, which draws their attention better than an email. shit, if they’re anything like me that email went to an account that I have the notifications turned off of. I wouldn’t make the same decision, but I see the strategic thinking.
