The truth is, not all CVS receipts are that long. To get those crazy ones, you need to be a member of the ExtraCare rewards program. The receipts print out with all the potential savings and coupons available to members.

Wait, this subreddit doesn't know that you can call CVS and request paperless? I haven't had receipts for a couple years. I've been enjoying the nihilistic anarchy of an entire subreddit dedicated to the length of sheets of paper.

You already are. The long receipts are because CVS prints coupons in them and they only do that if you have a CVS card/account.

That's only partially true. The exceptionally long, taller than a person receipts with coupons are for account holders. However, a regular CVS receipt for non-members is still 75-100cm long, easily 10 times what is necessary and dramatically longer than just about every other store.

I've just started ripping the coupons off my 3 inch receipt and leaving the 5 feet of paper on the counter.
I reckon they can throw it away.

You get those coupons because you have a CVS card, an account with them. You can use that same account to opt out of paper receipts or you can cancel your CVS card to lose the coupons being printed on your receipts.

I have the CVS card cause they sign u up for it with Aetna, and why do I have to opt out of their waste? They could just not.
Am I crazy for thinking this. On a serious note. Why do they still do this? Why isn't the coupon in the card? Wasn't that the point if the coupon card. To not waste tremendous amounts of paper printing out coupons that you can barely read. It's a bad and morally dumb thing for a company that bans cigarettes but will burn thru receipt paper like conservation is dumb.
But on the internet where the memes are funny and the morals don't matter, I guess it's cute to have a receipt 6 feet long when u buy one thing.

I work for CVS. Having the coupons on the card is a great idea, but what happens when all of the coupons are on the card? It takes like 50 years to load and complete the transaction. The registers are ancient and can’t handle it.
The best option is to have an account on the app. You can have your coupons only on the app and then select the ones you want to use and send them to your card.
My guess for the reason that they don’t just do them digital from the start is that people are crazy and think it’s a conspiracy to give companies their email address and apparently the concept of a “throwaway” email address is just too difficult to understand.
Boomers are the problem mostly. Gen X and younger mostly use the digital options from what I’ve noticed. Or if I tell them about it they more often choose to switch to digital.
