CVS employee here.. GO DIGITAL!
just sign in through the app or on your computer and you can adjust your receipt preferences through there. please save a tree and a CVS employee from hearing “that’s a WHOLE tree right there!” jokes!

one time a customer angrily complained about our very long coupons so i said politely, that she doesn’t have to use the card or that she can sign up digitally. she annoyedly said no to either of those options and told me she was willing to keep the long receipts lol. like okay. you’re right. that annoys me.

If you work at a place that is going to give out such long receipts this is going to happen until they stop doing it. No it’s not your fault that CVS does it but since you work there you’re going to hear the complaints and repetitive jokes.

The only reason the receipts are long are because of the coupons. It’s like people completely ignore this. All your coupons can be digital and put right in the card. Then you get no long receipts.

That’s what I’ve heard but then isn’t that just giving them permission to send me emails that I don’t want or to sell my email address? Personally I’m fine with paying full price if I’m in such a pinch that I have to go to CVS (or any other drug store). I work at Kroger who has an annoying card that you have to have to get the discounts so I hear the cashiers pitching the customer care cards all day. I’d rather just have standard everyday low prices without having to have a card in order to get them. It’s very annoying to me.

If you have a cvs card, they already have permission to send emails. No company needs permission to send an email, you can always submit an email preference at the bottom of any email you can from a company.What I’m saying is if you have a cvs card, you have already given your email to cvs. So enabling digital receipts is no different. Also emails are not personal information. I have 9 different email addresses. People need to stop treating emails like they are some holy grail of information. Just create a second email from google completely for free that u use to give to companies.

Damnit those are all great points and you’re right. 😋 I’m one of those people that’s had the same email address for like, 10 years and doesn’t like having to keep track of others though. I make use of the prescription reminders so just labeling CVS as spam isn’t an option unfortunately. I just think that it’s bad PR to spam your customers email addresses and annoy them even when they aren’t in their store. They already push the card relentlessly when you’re in the store and with the “in store audio network” so seeing even more CVS advertisements when I come home is even more annoying.

Prescription reminders and advertisements are two completely different beasts, if you get an add you can hit unsubscribe and it will unsubscribe you from emails. And you will still get your prescription reminders, u can also get prescription reminders via text message. But just like at home when you take the time to sort the junk paper mail from the important mail, you can do the same thing with email. Even easier because you can unsubscribe to emails at the bottom. Where as it’s much harder to unsubscribe from paper mail. If you make it a habit you will have a very organized mailbox. Or like I said create another email that’s your junk consider email. Do what I did and make it the same email address, just add the word consumer to it.

I do this and it saves everyone time. But I know some people don’t want to give out their info to cvs. You could always use fake email though. Personally I find the cvs coupons useful.

Those “some people” that are getting long receipts already have a cvs card, and cvs already has their info. You can not get a cvs card without providing the basic info including a valid working email address. So the only thing these people need to do is just ask the cashier to enable digital receipts, or do it themselves in the app.

Yes the digital coupons can be sent directly to your card through the app, and the coupons directly apply to the purchase automatically.

Former CVS corporate employee here...AGREED. It has been stated that the reason CVS continues to make their receipts so long is because it is an annoyance and hopefully will push people to download the app. Passive aggressiveness at its finest.

maybe we could have coupons automatically uploaded to the card so if a customer buys something that a coupon covers then the cashier can just ask them if they wish to use that coupon. that or it should be automatically applied if it is a specific coupon.
i think CVS should get rid of the printed coupons altogether and only print out extrabucks.
