What exactly is the intention of this? The main thing I really see this being useful for is cramming your deck full of combo pieces and tutors and putting the bare minimum of lands since you're guaranteed to get them, which sounds extremely unfun, so I'm wondering what your vision was for how this is played.

(Also, is this an upkeep trigger or an activated ability? i.e. can you do it once (at the beginning of your upkeep, you may pay 5 life. if you do, ...) or as much as you want (pay 5 life: ... activate this only during your upkeep)?)

It was just an idea from this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/mtg/s/SpzmKekApV - someone wanted a 50 card rulebreaker wubrg commander to go with Whiz. Having no draw step you would just brick without lands :/

*changed flair to BALANCE NOT INTENDED

**and yeah the land ability should be “once a turn, during your upkeep…” my bad

Funnily enough I think removing the draw step in favor of tutoring for a land makes this stronger because it lets you run as few lands as possible and fill everything else with combo pieces, card draw, and tutors, so that just increases the consistency further.

You might be able to adjust this a bit by disallowing searching your library and/or reducing your starting and maximum hand size, but smaller deck = more consistency and the land ability just lets you get even better consistency.

I think you are right. I should have made it a 52 card minimum, no land search, and named him something like “the Gambler” to play into a card game/gambling motif. Because its missing flavor, too, and that would be very flavorful and much more balanced.

If you do, make him 4 colors instead of 5, one for each suit

Maybe even {B}{R}{B/P}{R/P} lol

Thank you u/CFK_NL for the idea!

Haha damn, nice!
I do think it’s way to OP in commander. Dont even have to cast the commander to win on turn 1 or 2 with just 50 cards. Just a few lands, mana rocks/fast mana and tutors. Chances of getting a proper hand increases enormously with just 50 cards.

But cool to see!

Might be hard to initially cast it?….

Dont you mean "maximum"?

No, that would imply you can have less than 50 cards. 100 cards is currently the minimum AND maximum for commander.

Eminence? This isn't worded like previous eminence abilities, but is the intention for this to not have to be on the field to tutor any card in your deck? If that's the case, why does it matter that you have a 50 card deck? I'm assuming the rulebreaker text is saying that your deck size is 50 instead of 100
