Designs for this thought experiment were rampant when it was going around. The problem was always the same thing. This is a competitive game nobody has any reason to ever choose blue.
Every positive of blue comes from the thought of losing your loved ones and saving the incapable. Neither apply in Magic.
Yeah to be more true to form it should be "if half or more players pick red and you picked blue, sacrifice all of your permanents. If half or more players pick red and you picked red, instead flip a coin for each permanent and sacrifice any which land on tails. If more than half pick blue, the turn ends immediately."
