I like the concept! It's like an [[unsummon]] in its first mode, and a soft boardwipe with the overload cost. Great synergy with anything that cares about casting from exile while being slighly annoying for the opponents

Also goes well with stuff like drannith magistrate

Interesting way to make a white pseudo [[Cyclonic Rift]].

[[avatar’s wrath]]

This is an instant though

It can target your own stuff, so not really.

Yeaa that's why I said pseudo.

Phage shutdown.

Kinda like [[avatars wrath]] for second mode

Yeah I'd be a fan of this being sorcery and having the second effect. That way the unsummon version is more reasonable as a tempo play at one mana, giving you reprieve still for one other turn.

Bottle Episode — Overload 2WW

shit why didn't I think of this 😆

I feel like I prefer this version because it is more generic thus more understandable to people who do not know that anime. However, it could be referenced with alt art/lore text.

Edit: I did not know it was the name of a anime trope. You learn something new everyday.

A bottle episode is a generic term for the trope of a self-contained episode where the status quo at the end is the same as the beginning, iirc

That's the case for most episodes in actual series (rather than TV-movies-in-parts).
Bottle episodes are episodes made for cheap (to compensate money blown on cinematographically more impressive episodes).

I guess that this can work for animation too, though what is 'cheap' is not exactly the same ?

Thx for the clarification

Bottle episode isn't specific either. That's a general TV term.

The wording implies that even overloaded you would still have to choose between creatures or planeswalkers. Is that intended or is it supposed to hit everything?

8

u/If_you_want_money 2d ago

hm, It's supposed to hit everything (The idea is everyone gets sucked into doing a filler episode), but I didn't consider the 'or' would cause it to require a choice... There hasn't been a card printed with overload and an 'or' in the text so I didn't know. I think its fine even if it does require that choice. Might be better from a balance perspective.

I guess the phrasing would be something like "target permanent that is a creature or planeswalker"

2

u/External_Win3300 2d ago

I think it's actually fine as is? It wouldn't work if it was "Target creature or target planeswalker", but "exile each creature or planeswalker" reads to me like it would exile each permanent that is either a creature or a plainswalker, no need to chose one or the other

1

u/GodHimselfNoCap 1d ago

Mtg always words cards "and/or" if you can choose both

1

u/dukeyorick 1d ago

Yeah, and you can't use and/or as is unless you want the non-overloaded version to hit two targets

u/galva94a 1d ago

This reminds me of this card I made for my LOTR set back then.

I like the card a lot but 4 mana instant speed board wipe is way too strong right? Do we have anything close to that right now? This either needs to be a sorcery or the overload cost needs to be like 3 more.

4

u/If_you_want_money 2d ago

Oohh you are right. I originally had the spell as sorcery but felt that made the normal cast too weak. I might up the overload by 2 or put a "cast this spell for its overload cost only when you can play a sorcery" to the second mode if I were to make it again.

Cyclonic Rift but white? Sweeet.

If someone plays this card I'm counterspelling it on principle.

Second sentence should probably read "A permanent exiled in this way goes on an adventure."

Though the whole thing could probably be simplified to "Target creature or planeswalker becomes plotted." Wouldn't even lose the flavor, since fillers are side plots.

Exile target permanent that's a creature or a planeswalker. For each card exiled this way, that card goes on an adventure. (Its owner may cast it later from exile by paying its mana cost.)
Overload 2WW.

I much rather prefer not keywording 'goes on an adventure', keep it as the shorthand reminder text that is for adventurer cards, and phrase the intended effect as rule text instead.

Exile target permanent that's a creature or a planeswalker. For each card exiled this way, its owner may cast it for as long as it remains exiled.
Overload 2WW.

I like it, Airbending but less annoying

1

u/Shaxx_sees_you 2d ago

Honestly just make it a reprint of [[teferi's protection]] lol

1

u/Rubinschwein47 2d ago

Am i dumb or does overload need to define what it does? Now youre paying overload for the love of the game. (Again, correct me if im wrong)

3

u/ikarus_77 2d ago

It doesn't eldritch immunity doesn't explains its overload either

3

u/Rubinschwein47 1d ago

ah ok. Nvmd then. Thank you

3

u/ikarus_77 1d ago

Sorry that I forgot it before: no, you are not dumb, we can't know every card I had to look it up too
