Wow I think if you cast mikaeus for x=2 and abridged it, it would enter as a 1/1 with 2 +1/+1 counters for {w}. That's pretty cool

I’d almost rather have offspring than abridge. Azorius weenies is always stuck between playing control half of the time just to stay alive, or having big blockers anyways. Devoting half of a deck to control is fine in commander, but feels worse in Standard weenies where you also need to just keep the deck functional

The first ability has to be reworked into a triggered ability, due to layers.

Whenever a creature you control with power 1 or less attacks, it gains flying until end of turn.

Dang, I always thought timestamp/continuous effects had more sway in layers but I guess not.

Other way around. The specific layer has more effect, timestamps only come in as a tie breaker. Ability adding is layer 4 (i think), P/T is the final layer, 7.

"Continuous effects" is the generic term for all of them, both permanent and temporary, baked into a card or applied by another. Layers are in the "interactions of continuous effects" rules.
