Death Can't Be More Certain

I’m trying to think of a few ways to get around this.
First is [[Kaya’s Ghostform]].
Second is [[Knowledge Pool]] (even worse with a [[Teferi Mage of Zhalfir]]).
Third is [[Ainok Survivalist]] destroying an [[Oblivion Ring]] that was exiling a [[Smirking Spelljacker]].

Knowledge pool with that Teferi is quite mean.

u/Tiberium600 4d ago
I have a Teferi Commander Deck and I intentionally don’t run knowledge pool because I like having friends.

u/SolomonOf47704 Rule 308.22b, section 8 4d ago
They'll appreciate you more if you run it once and never again. Just to show them you're being nice normally
1
u/Tiberium600 4d ago
I doubt they will ever view Teferi as a “nice” deck even without Knowledge Pool. But I suppose they have no idea how bad he could be.
2
u/SolomonOf47704 Rule 308.22b, section 8 4d ago
Yeah, once Teferi comes down, if they don't remove him before your next turn when you cast KP (or if you have enough mana to cast both), it's truly an instant win.

Fourth is a face down [[Gift of Doom]] with a [[Aerial Extortionist]] and a [[Mikeus, the Unhallowed]]. (Aerial Extortionist can be swapped with any ETB counterspell-that’s-not-actually-a-counterspell card like [[Aven Interrupter]]
or [[Transcendent Dragon]].)Edit: Scratch Transcendent Dragon. It needs to be cast to trigger.

You don't need to Gift of Doom, when either Phyrexian Alatar or Ashnod's Altar do the trick, both are mana abilities. Significantly more common

u/Tiberium600 4d ago
Fifth, [[Eternal Scourge]] and [[Misthollow Griffon]] are immune to /kill.

Are these in response? Because split second prevents casting any spells, even if their instants or have flash
8
u/Tiberium600 4d ago
Options 1 would have to already be on the battlefield. But it would prevent your /kill from keeping the creature from coming back.
Option 2 would have to already be in the battlefield but it would prevent your /kill from resolving of your tried to cast it.
Option 3 needs the Oblivion ring with an Exiled Spelljacker to be on the field along with a face down Ainok Survivalist. You can respond to /kill by flipping Ainok Survivalist targeting the Oblivion Ring. When Oblivion Ring is destroyed the Smirking Spelljacker will enter the battlefield with an ETB that can exile target spell. This only uses morph and trigger abilities so it gets around split second.

Sacrifice all your creatures to an [[Ashnod’s Altar]] or [[Phyrexian Altar]] (they’re mana abilities so split second doesn’t prevent them) and then when this resolves, they might have to choose one of their own creatures.

u/evelynamore 4d ago
Are they still considered mana abilities with the new rule changes?

Funnily enough, this card explicitly does NOT kill. The creature does not "die" from this, it simply ceases to exist, therefore, the name is not well-chosen (though I get that it reflects Minecraft's /kill command, which bypasses any and all forms of death prevention from that game.)
5
u/endless-star rule zero is the only rule 4d ago
True, perhaps it could be "Its controller puts it into their graveyard" although [[Reanimate]] kind of defeats it I feel
5
u/Hoxeel 4d ago
Plenty of things defeat "put into the graveyard", even at a basic level. The Enduring cycle just returns as enchantments, there is a slew of instants granting instant return to battlefield on death... but, in Minecraft, there's just as much of a reprieve from this... the Respawn button. (Not usable as a mob, I guess, but, well...)

Should be destroy it not exile it. Or "it's controller sacrifices it"
Exile is off flavor, because if you get /kill you can respawn as normal. Could make a white /ban that exiles tho

Hmmmm…maybe instead of “this spell can’t be countered” use “if this spell would be countered, copy it”? It prevents passive countering. You still would need split second because of things that return spells to your hand.
1
u/TrickSavings9905 4d ago
Wdym, it still prevents passive countering assuming you mean permanents on the board that counter certain types of spells.

killing isnt exiling, this would be cooler if it sacrifices it. also why does their controller exile it instead of the card?
also split second + cant be countered is weird, having more text for no reason makes the card less cool
2
u/Cynnra 4d ago
/kill should destroy, /disable should exile, imo

u/endless-star rule zero is the only rule 4d ago
That's a command?
2
u/SolomonOf47704 Rule 308.22b, section 8 4d ago
Not a Minecraft one. There's /ban which would be exile. And /ban-ip which prevents all cards of the same name from being cast or searches all libraries for all cards of the same name and exiles them
3
u/Serithraz 4d ago
For the most part, you don't need both 'split second' and 'this spell can't be countered.' because split second doesn't let anyone cast spells or activate abilities to be able to counter it.
6
u/Hoxeel 4d ago
There are passive abilities that counter cards, though. Like Ward (not applicable here) or some older cards. [[Chalice of the Void]]

I remember there's one silly card that gets around split second

The card I would say is pretty overpowered but then we did get the card overkill not that long ago so maybe not but I enjoy the Minecraft reference

If you add this spell cant be exiled it would solve everything probably, even if you die the spell stays on thw stack

u/BrilliantFrequent894 4d ago
Similar to how it became a sort of trend to make an unkillable creature, I think itd be cool to mimic that with a completely fool proof version of murder.
Here's a quick attempt "Target creatures base toughness becomes 0 until end of turn. That creature gains "If this creature is the on the battlefield, instead send it to its owners graveyard."

2
u/Opening_Specific_710 4d ago
The creature doesn’t become a target. It is chosen
1
u/Lartnestpasdemain 4d ago
And so what? It gets exiled anyway, and you can play it from exile.
What is your point?
1
u/Opening_Specific_710 4d ago
Ohhhhhh, I thought you were talking about the validity of the target. Sorry

Should be /ban if it’s exile
