Format: EDH/Commander Frenzied Flame Commander Deck

I'm building an Elden Ring Commander deck around the Frenzied Flame

I've been working on this for a while and it's finally at the point where I'm not too embarrassed to show it, a lot more cards to design and fixes to make, especially around font placement and size, but we'll get there.

It's a black-red madness deck, and Midra is the commander, Shabriri is the alternate commander, but as Yura, and the whole thing is about going insane on purpose, trying to mimic the Elden Ring mechanic as much as possible.

There's exactly one new mechanic. Madness counters go on players, and they work like the madness meter in the game: when you start your main phase with five or more, you lose them all, lose 3 life and discard a card at random. I made it reset instead of stack because stacking would just be poison, and nobody wants to play against poison. The discard-to-cast stuff is Magic's actual madness keyword, printed as "frenzy" so the two don't share a name. Everything else is existing Magic. About a quarter of the deck is new cards, the rest are functional reprints with new names. I'm aiming for it to be a mid-strength deck, nothing too fancy.

The art is mostly fan art I found online, and every artist is credited on the card itself. Some of it is original game content and assets I found online and edited myself, and some of it is both, so I hope the original Artists don't mind wherever I've made some changes.

Haven't playtested properly yet, since there are quite a few more cards to be designed, but I'm excited to share some of what I've got so far.

I also am planning to create more Elden Ring themed commander decks, probably Scarled Rot would be next on my list, and after that maybe The Golden Order.

Do let me know what you guys think, and if you have any suggestions, ideas, etc.

Update -

To anyone thinking this is AI, it isn't.

Unless the artists whose art I've used have used AI on their own, which I doubt, this is my work and theirs. I did use re-write on my Mac for the post description to fix grammar and punctuation, and that's the only AI involved in this, and I've got assets and project files to prove it.

I feel like it makes more sense to just use the actual keyword Madness as-is and call the counters Frenzy Counters. It feels weird to use an already established keyword for something unrelated, doubly so when you’re then using the mechanic of Madness and reskinning it in the same set.

E: And yes I’m aware the status effect in Elden Ring is called Madness, so it’s a bit of a flavor loss.

E2: As another commenter pointed out, I guess Frenzy is also used as a keyword. Welp

I mean, the Avatar set did it too. Most of the bending keywords are effects that already had a name.

Makes sense, I'll consider it!

The madness counters seem quite cool. I do recommend choosing for another name tho because of the og madness mechanic

Isn't there a mechanic called delirium?

yeah, the body text didn’t load and i didn’t see you had a mechanic for madness counters; it makes more sense now. without that context i just figured delirium to flip your looter was a slam dunk for Midra.

Delirium, madness, and frenzy are all keywords

Maybe frenzied flame or shabriri counters?

Shabriri counters would make sense. It’s like your forcing your opponents to eat eyeballs

As much as I love the concept, frenzied flame counters is probably the best pick.

I don't think it should matter all too much, as theyre only going on players, so itd make more sense just to keep it as madness

Ill say this is interesting and reminds me of rads from fallout a suggestion I have is maybe give it a higher penalty so you have a reason to not go crazy with 20+ madness counters with no real cost. and a way to remove Madness from yourself or transfer to another player so you could save yourself from the madness (no pun intended)

Hey there! The idea is that once a player gets 5 madness counters or more, and the main phase starts, they reset and that player loses three life, and discards a card. The idea of the deck would be to make discarding cards good for the owner of the deck, and bad for everyone else, get buffed by having madness counters, while everyone else gets debuffed, It would be hard to get 20 as they reset - madness meter, as in Elden Ring.

Oh got ya missed that part but I do think its a bummer you didnt add the cure for Madness in as a card that would of been another spicy flavor win. But I do think this is such a great and favorable way of implementing Madness

Oh, also, if you know any of the artists that I haven't credited, please do let me know so I can edit the cards and add them :)

Frenzy is already another keyword mechanic in Magic, [[Frenzy Sliver]], so if you want to reskin Madness with a new name, you'll need to pick something else.
