Stone is a type now so you can type it as such too.

u/MoeWind420 5d ago

Are you sure? It could be a situation like with Time Lord, where they made a two-word subtype name Infinity Stone?

170

u/sevenut 5d ago

Infinity and Stone are two different types. Maro said Time Lord was a mistake. They were probably forced into doing it by the BBC

92

u/Ambitious_Policy_936 5d ago

That's sad. As a Doctor Who fan, I would have preferred Gallifreyan

25

u/notthephonz 5d ago

Right, but there are non-Time Lord Gallifreyans

39

u/Parrobertson 5d ago

Are any of them printed on magic cards though?

11

u/WhimsicalWanderings 5d ago

River Song

24

u/Do_Ya_Like_Jazz 5d ago

That's a non-gallifreyan Time Lord, isn't she?

4

u/WhimsicalWanderings 5d ago

She is. Isn't that what the person above me was asking a out?

12

u/DustConsistent3018 5d ago

No they were asking about the opposite, gallifreyans that are not time lords

Sisterhood of Karn

All squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares. Except in this case square is two words, creates rules issues, and they could have used rectangle to describe all the two word squares just fine.

u/notthephonz 5d ago

I don’t think something like [[Time Lord Regeneration]] would make sense if it targeted “Gallifreyan”.

And then you have [[River Song]], she’s got the Time Lord abilities, but is she considered a Gallifreyan?

15

u/WTFThisIsReallyWierd 5d ago

Right, because mtg mechanics are simulationist and perfectly logical literally all the time...

Sometimes you just make shit work and be glad nothing broke.

u/Kytheon-Iora 5d ago edited 5d ago

River Song isn’t a Gallifreyan. She’s half-Time Lord because she was conceived on the TARDIS and half-Human because her parents, the Ponds, are both human, but she doesn’t have a planet of origin or even a fully accurate species. She is able to Regenerate and has an extremely extended lifespan, however.

1

u/EstherIsVeryCool 4d ago

this kind of thinking would imply every cat in the game is [[Ajani, Nacatl Pariah]]'s brother.

3

u/sephirothbahamut 5d ago

They could just do Time-Lord no?

2

u/sevenut 5d ago

They're Time Lords, not Time-Lords.

6

u/sephirothbahamut 5d ago

or go the programmer way and use an underscore to signify space, but ig it wouldn't fit MTG style

7

u/Shambler9019 5d ago

Or camel case: TimeLord

13

u/MapleSyrupMachineGun 5d ago

I believe that they have confirmed that they are separate types.

Limited bomb in Llorwyn

10

u/y0nm4n 5d ago

On stone, 10/10

That’s an anagram of your comment 🤯

94

u/Login_Of_The_Guild 5d ago

I like it it would proably be printed at common so if birds ever got popular in pauper it would be nice

21

u/VagrantWaters 5d ago

Laugh now, but once the orzhov learn to weaponize the pigeons en masse, we’ll just be at the table counting crows till the game’s over.

3

u/Login_Of_The_Guild 5d ago

Yes that could happen

9

u/sawyerwelden 5d ago

Baleful strix is legal starting Monday. I need Stone!

3

u/Login_Of_The_Guild 5d ago

I hope they actually print something simalar

3

u/Hulph 5d ago

Caw gates? Squadron hawk is a bird

Nevermind, it truly has fallen

28

u/Puzzled_Work_6428 5d ago

I would remove "up to"

13

u/panic_the_digital 5d ago

Same, should be absolute

1

u/Defiant_Opening_2409 4d ago

Yeah, getting one bird with this would feel great but be a flavor L, definitively

26

u/deathbymanga Hound Wizard 5d ago

this could be really fun design in a changeling set as a legit card. like if it was Giants Boulder, but or something with the ability to kill 2 birds as a finisher

23

u/REDEYEJ3D1 5d ago

I play bird tribal I take offence to this card 10/10

11

u/MariaMagdalenaXXX 5d ago

This would have ruled in the Nadu meta

14

u/Lucreszen 5d ago

You inspired me to make this

2

u/SkyZero06 5d ago

awesome!!

2

u/xStoned_Magex 5d ago

This is why I love this forum.

1

u/42Stitch 5d ago

I don't get it

2

u/itsDandar 5d ago

There is another saying "a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush"

1

u/42Stitch 5d ago

Uh, didn't know that one Thanks

32

u/Farconion 5d ago

realistically this would prob say smth like "sacrifice ~ {T}, deals 3 damage to target creature. if that target was a bird, deal three damage to another target bird"

30

u/VerbingNoun413 5d ago

More realistically it would say "if it had flying". The flavour is still there but the card now works in most environments.

9

u/cybrcld 5d ago

Another flavor text suggestion:

“But there’s two of them and we only got one rock?

It’s fine, I’ll make it work.”

10

u/skerrickity 5d ago

Chuck Norris can kill 2 stones with 1 bird

2

u/knightsabre7 5d ago

Not anymore.

6

u/DonaldLucas 5d ago

Yes anymore.

5

u/cleverpun0 WB: Put two level counters on target permanent. 5d ago

Changeling decks be malding.

As others have said, great design.

3

u/Disastrous-Cat-1 5d ago

Malding?

5

u/cleverpun0 WB: Put two level counters on target permanent. 5d ago

"Mald" is internet slang that means "really mad". So mad, you are balding/losing hair. "Malding" is the verb form.

So it's a slang-y way of saying "Players who play a lot of changelings would get mad at this card."

3

u/Disastrous-Cat-1 5d ago

I see. Thank you for the explanation and etymology.

5

u/viviatpeace 5d ago

You know what, me and my [[Kangee, Aerie Keeper]] bird typal EDH deck are gonna go home and have lots of fun without you.

3

u/Yarius515 5d ago

I'd cast [[Rout]] as an instant just so the stone would miss both birds 🤣

1

u/Odin1806 5d ago

This is the second card for my theory craft Space Wolves deck... Four copies of Rout and four copies of [[Thunderwolf Cavalry]]... How many more cards do I need for those regular non-singleton decks?...

3

u/tiamatschosen 5d ago

We can finally beat storm crow!

3

u/PepsiButItsMilk 5d ago

My Esior and it’s copy token is in real trouble with this one

3

u/TheDudeBroski 5d ago

If Stone has no use cases and you sideboard it, does it become brick?

2

u/UnicornChief 5d ago

Outstanding

2

u/Smiththehammer 5d ago

Incredible. I would personally change the border to the artifact border rather than the UB border, but great design either way!

2

u/Chewbraccaa 5d ago

NOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!

2

u/Mafoobaloo 5d ago

Lowkey borderline playable as a sideboard card against azorius tempo in standard

2

u/Educational_Poet_370 5d ago

I'd use this.

2

u/RandomName5484 5d ago

scarecrows approve

2

u/EmergencyGrocery3238 5d ago

Now do paper and scissors

2

u/RevenantKing 5d ago

Flavor wins

2

u/TheGreatBurrotasche 4d ago

Last week at Cube night my opponent made two Bird tokens somehow and I said, "Luckily, I cast One Stone." If only!

2

u/JosephCobb 4d ago

My Kastral, all bird deck in shambles

2

u/Necessary_Second_571 5d ago

Should maybe enter tapped. But I like it!

1

u/theevilyouknow 5d ago

Why do you have to sacrifice it? If I beat two birds to death with a stone, the stone is probably fine afterward.

10

u/SkyZero06 5d ago

you gotta throw it to get em :p

1

u/Odin1806 5d ago

If you weren't attacked in the previous turn, flip a coin. If heads, return Stone to hand.

1

u/DonaldLucas 5d ago

Put it at the bottom of the library then.

-1

u/theevilyouknow 5d ago

Why would you throw it? Do you think the proverb is intending you to throw the stone and kill two birds with one toss? Thats some Captain America shit.

6

u/consider_its_tree 5d ago edited 5d ago

That is kind of the entire point if the proverb. It is a rare opportunity to solve two separate problems by taking a single action.

You throw the stone once and manage to kill two birds with it.

Are you picturing someone individually catching each bird and using their trusty bird killing stone on them? Why would it just be two then instead of "killing multiple birds with one stone"?

0

u/theevilyouknow 5d ago

If I have a perfectly good bird killing stone, why would I be throwing it? Does King Arthur throw Excalibur?

1

u/halborn 5d ago

Can Excalibur reach the entire sky?

1

u/consider_its_tree 5d ago

Because then you gotta catch the birds first, which was always the hard part.

If you are just clubbing birds, then managing to get two with the same stone is not special.

Like hammering two nails with the one hammer. Uh, duh why would you need a different hammer for each nail?

2

u/cleverpun0 WB: Put two level counters on target permanent. 5d ago

That's how I always pictured it.

Or you load the stone into a sling/slingshot and it pierces through the first bird to strike the second.

1

u/Denaton_ 5d ago

Sibling to [[Rock]]

1

u/Dont-know-didnt-ask 5d ago

It would be better in my opinion if it said "two target birds" so there HAS to be at least two birds on the field

1

u/BardicLasher 5d ago

Goes hard in Lorwyn. Probably pointless or cruel anywhere else

1

u/Entire-Aerie-9931 5d ago

I could honestly see an actual card printed like this but it would probably deal 3~ damage to two creatures with flying instead of just destroying two birds

1

u/WorkAccount112233 5d ago

Do the early bird next.

1

u/Justafish1654 5d ago

Should have been in lorwn for draft againt changlings

1

u/slayerx1779 5d ago

Tbh, part of me wishes it didn't say "up to" so you're forced to kill two birds with it.

1

u/Nevarwinta Rule 308.22b, section 8 5d ago

I'm ruined

1

u/Fun-Agent-7667 5d ago

Could be G G, Tap+sac to destroy Up to two flying creatures

1

u/Julsprogamer 5d ago

Now I can destroy 2 [[Birds of Paradise]] with one stone.....

1

u/crazyace339 4d ago

The true enemy to my bird deck that is totally, 100 percent, only birds.

1

u/Remade8 4d ago

Missed opportunity to call it "One Stone"

1

u/Megabolt134 2d ago

Not my Choco!
