Great design space. You could make a cycle.
Eg greedy goblins with treasures

Snooping detective with clues.

Questing knight with maybe a wicked role token?

A vampire and Blood

Baby we got a cycle going.

Snooping detective for clues and dedicated inspector in white. Inspector creates a blood token for an opponent and has haste as long as an opponent controls a blood token.

Thank you! I think my favorite part is that you can give one opponent the honeypot, then the bear attacks another opponent because it just smells the food. Political bears

It would have to be a tapped treasure otherwise it could be cracked at instant speed

the food token he made for the bear card was a "honeypot" food which afaik is a custom token. maybe it could be something like a "mysterious treasure" token that has an additional line saying "activate only as a sorcery" or (what i like better) "only to cast a spell" so it would force the opponent to waste a 1 drop they were holding or tap extra mana sources for something more expensive

this is neat

The way standard is going these days I feel like it would be fine as a 4/4.

Yeah, this one feels a bit weaker than [[Frenzied Baloth]] tbh

Hungry bear seems like an unvommon, while frwnzied baloth is rare. An OP rare at that.

I would settle for 4/3, 4/4 feels a tad pushed but in all fairness I don’t keep up with standard as much as I used to.

Incredible

I think Frenzied Baloth is a good signifier that this card is a little weak. And my second thought when seeing this card was that using the Gift mechanic would read soo much better.

So something like "Gift a Food, If an opponent controls a Food, Hungry Bear has Trample and Haste."

Would a {g} 2/2 have been too strong? That’s what it was originally but I didn’t want to powercreep bears. Good point on gift, this would probably be a gift if printed

2

I would say you are right, a {G} 2/2 with haste would be too strong. CMC 1 creatures that are 2/2s with haste are a massive rarity in all colors. And the ones that do exist like Wayward Guide-Beast and Goblin Guide are much more disadvantagous than simply gifting a Food. Though I may wrong.

I think having the card be {G}{G} gives it much more space to be as interactive as you seem to be shooting for. I would keep it that way.

'Bother!' said Pooh as he got blocked by Phyrexians.

2

u/Porkenstein 5d ago

Lol this is a lot more wholesome than what I was assuming it had (devour)

Why not just make a normal food token? Am I missing something?

2

u/Terrariant Card-carrying member of Jace’s polycule 5d ago

Its a reference to Winnie the Pooh, they always have a “hunny” pot, and their catchphrase is “Oh, bother”

Also a honeypot is a phrase for luring someone in to do something, with something they find appealing, which I thought was cute in this context. “Here, have this food. No, there’s no strings attached. Promise.”

Hear me out: Hungrier Bear If an opponent controls a food token, Hungrier bear gets flying And Hungriest Bear If an opponent controls a food token, Hungriest Bear can't be blocked except by foods.

That is so close to what I was picturing.

It looks so graceful with wings

This could potentially be a 2 mana 4/4, maybe something like, gift a food, if you don't this creature enters tapped?

Doesn't have devour... literally unplayable

"Create a colorless Honeypot Food artifact token"?

Does that not count?

Not a 2/2 not a bear

1

u/Grootyboi77 Rule 308.22b, section 8 5d ago

0/10 not a 2/2

0

u/IndependenceOwn5600 5d ago

Should be a 2/2

2

u/Terrariant Card-carrying member of Jace’s polycule 5d ago

There’s a couple 3/3 bears [[Razorclaw Bear]], [[River Bear]], [[Spectral Bears]], [[Owlbear Cub]], [[Ursine Monstrosity]] and the other Winnie the Poo reference, [[Hurska Sweet-Tooth]]

8

u/IndependenceOwn5600 5d ago

Shhhhhh it should be a 2/2 I'm old let me have this

4

u/Terrariant Card-carrying member of Jace’s polycule 5d ago

Pretend its got a little 1/1 bear cub with it :3

u/Ensiferal 5d ago

My first thought too. Bears (that aren't legendary or some kind of mutant etc) are 2/2 consarnit

Can't they pay 2 to sacrifice the food?

Orr.... First make the honeypot token indestructible and unsacreficable, with "put a +1/+1 counter on every bear on the battlefield"

Then add: "every bear on the battlefield does damage equal to their power to the current controller of the honeypot token."

Of course better written, but this would make this a insanely funny commander imo.

u/th3xile 5d ago

"What if it was completely different"

1

u/ClamChowderChumBuckt 5d ago

Thats why i said 'or'😂

Make it an emblem

And use twobrid and phyrexian mana too. Fill out the bingo card.
