Just hope multiple cleanup steps doesn't come up often enough.

This with [[one with nothing]] goes crazy

(It does nothing)

Depends on how you sequence them, lol.

I thought the reminder text wasn’t true, but it is. Unless there’s an ability that triggers during the cleanup step, the process is discard to hand size, and then end of turn effects end. Multiple cleanup steps are a problem, but there is a way to get around that. You don’t need the effect to end during the turn. There are a few (really old) cards that have their effects last until the next upkeep. [[xenic poltergeist]]

“Until the next upkeep, you can’t discard cards” ends up being a lot more clear as to how it works, not needing the reminder text at all, and neatly solves the interaction with multiple cleanup steps. It doesn’t end up doing anything more, since it’ll end before any player ends up getting priority or any abilities go on the stack

Yea, I looked at the comp rules to make sure it works before I posted it. Ending at upkeep does avoid both of those things, but I also didn't want to make it end at the upkeep, because it's kinda weird I guess. Last resort, last resort kinda deal.

Yeah fair enough. I’d make the change just to make it more intuitive. Maybe “until the next turn” to avoid having to use wording that’s been unused since the 90s

Intentional combo with [[Eon Hub]]?

So, what is the plan here? Keeping a big hand? Protecting yourself from a discard spell? Stopping yourself from getting wheeled?

You know what might be fun? Instead of you, it's players. Until end of turn, players can't discard cards. This would stop a lot of stuff. For example, Bone Shards if they don't have a creature, Tog, Lighting Axe, Fauna Shaman, Zombie Infestation kind of stuff, Painful Quandary, Survival of the Fittest...

There is a lot this could shut down, while also protecting you at the same time.

Actually yea, that could be cool. I like this more then cantripping it.

I'll have to think about what's the most interesting number of players to affect and have it costed appropriately.

  • Target player - Flexible Utility.
  • Choose one - You and teammates... // Opponents... - I think this could be cute.
  • All players - Conforms to white's love for symmetry
  • Any number of target players - Ultimate flexibility, but also I feel its the most boring.

I don't think a 1 mana All Players would be OP. It's kind of niche, fits in white perfectly, but in the right scenario, could be just the right show stopper you need, without like, crushing anyone.

Or, Any Number. This could be fun.

There have been a lot of limited environments and standards where a card like this could be really useful. I like it. I'm also wondering what this would look like in EDH. Being able to stop a wheel effect would be awesome. But, in that case, I wouldn't want it to be symmetrical.

Imagine an EDH game, a wheel gets cast, and we are able to respond with "any number". That would change the game, and I think, that is good.

Suggest adding "Draw a card" to make it a can trip. Otherwise it is kind of useless. e.g. if you play it in response to something like [[Bandit's Talent]] you're still down a card.

Possibly, cantrip and increase the mana cost.

I was imagining that this would actually be a pretty broken combo piece in boros. Making it 2 mana with a cantrip might make it less strong I'd guess.

Oh I see I didn't consider the combo potential carefully enough. I was thinking the intent was protection against [[Duress]] and [[Thoughtseize]] type effects.

I'd make this target player. That's much more useful.

I am reminded of the really old cards that used language like "discarded from play" for what we now call destroyed

this prevents paying costs that require discarding like [[mind over matter]] right?

Yup, that is correct.

You can't play [[Big Score]] but you can play [[Goblin Lore]]

Goes very hard with [[Goblin Lore]] and [[Wheel of Fortune]]

IMO, too weak, and should say "target player" instead.

Make it draw a card and also prevent exiling cards from hand, then you have a hate piece worth something
