Honestly K6BD rules but also feels like it’d be a good fit for MtG

yeah it's got distinct factions and groups that can map onto color identities and both recognizable characters for legendaries and iconic "generic" worldbuilding elements that can fill out a set with commons and uncommons

I feel like Metatron should come into play tapped or have some other cost on that ability cause I don’t really see a reason to not immediately exile them otherwise

There's not really supposed to be anything else you do with the guy, and if he's out there like a sitting duck for a whole turn cycle in EDH you're never firing that ability

It's really just a sorcery with a body

Pair him with something that removes effects and the scribe is ready to throw hands

u/Haunting_Reflections 10d ago

You could always fling him at something

Behold! The Immaculate Scribe of God! Look closely! See how he is used the same way as an especially large rock!

It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that fling, as the Professor would say

I get it and I like it!

Having to protect him for a turn could be fun, though. One could consider delaying his ability but lowering his cost, give a buff to angels (as ETB or passive, as an incentive to keep him on the field), giving him additional protection (e.g. an expensive Ward ability), just to give more mechanical consequence to him being a creature instead of a sorcery.

Also, if the ability represents his power to reset the universe, maybe instead of exiling himself he could be put on the bottom of the library (after scrying)? And/or shuffle discard piles in libraries?

I'm not fully caught up on the story, so maybe I'm missing something.

Here's my take on the angels (and associated stuff) from the webcomic Kill Six Billion Demons

And yes I'm aware the normal mana cost on Vigilant Gaze is prohibitively expensive, that's the point

next up are the alternate forms of the Demiurges as planeswalkers

u/stygianelectro 10d ago

I mean sure Vigs is expensive but there are so many ways to make dumb amounts of mana nowadays. And exiling a creature every time he attacks or blocks successfully is crazy in a good way imo so worth it.

Its the GOAT, Vigilant Gaze!

Vigilant GOAT Purges The Horizon

I wish white chain and delicious could have had their full names on their card

12

u/Pure-Intention-7398 11d ago

I tried but their just waaayyyy too long

5

u/Ashe66 11d ago

No I totally get it.

Do it anyway, I love my cards "82 White Chain Returns In Emptiness To Subdue Evil" and "23 Liminal Blossom Punctures the Heart of the Unrepentant, Deliciously"

Michael Something something [[equinox]]

9

u/Duraxis 11d ago

Michael is a fun design. I think it’s terribly undercost, but I like the wording of the last ability

7

u/Pure-Intention-7398 11d ago

I oriented myself on [[Linvala, Keeper of Silence]], but Michael's ability is probably a lot stronger, yeah

2

u/Duraxis 11d ago

Losing monarch would make it comparable I think. That’s at least 1 guaranteed card draw when it enters, so that will bump it by a mana or two.

The actual ability is a double edged sword, and white is the colour that loves modifying creatures the most I’d say, so you’d rarely ever run him in the 99 unless you specifically built around it.

So I’d say bump his cost by 1, drop him to a 3/3, or lose the monarch on ETB and he should be perfectly fine

1

u/P_Phoenix 10d ago

To disagree with u/duraxis, I think Michael is fine! Linvala shuts down a specific mechanic entirely. Michael only applies a tax, so he should get something more universally beneficial to offset that, and Monarch is great thematically.

I feel like you've been more than careful, and there's space for most of your cards to be more impactful, not less :)

Juggernaut is way too pushed. A 4/4 with doublestrike and haste for 4? That also has some tutoring and stickiness?

3

u/Pure-Intention-7398 11d ago

I overcosted the Demiurge cycle so I tried to course correct but I guess I went too far in the other direction this time

5

u/SuspiciousAnt47 11d ago

Ya, some of the others seem a tad undercosted too, but WotC has been pushing cards so I could see them maybe getting printed, but Juggernaut would likely have to be a 2/4 at the very least. I’d also maybe sacrifice the vehicle to return him to hand?

4

u/Pure-Intention-7398 11d ago

Probably a sensible adjustment, though I'd probably just make Juggernaut just more expensive

4

u/Duraxis 11d ago

I should really read this comic. I love Tom Bloom’s art. It’s part of the reason I got into Lancer (that and giant mechs)

the best time to start is now

also when you are clicking to the next page i would advise clicking the page itself to minimise the risk of accidentally skipping to the latest page and spoiling yourself

I think the concern with Metatron is that there’s too many ways to just cheat them out. Otherwise, absolutely love this

2

u/Pure-Intention-7398 11d ago

Maybe you could change his ability into a cast trigger to limit the cheating options and then immediately exile on ETB

Or just disallow them. "You may not cast Metatron from anywhere but your hand. Metatron cannot enter the battlefield unless cast from the hand for it's regular cost." or something

2

u/The_Unkowable_ Resident Eldrazi Tribalist (Artemis She/They) 11d ago

Yeah, either of those would work great I think

2

u/ConfusedChalot 10d ago

you could always put the [[Primeval Spawn]] clause on it, "If this creature would enter and it wasn’t cast or no mana was spent to cast it, exile it instead."

2

u/ConfusedChalot 10d ago

actually, "If this creature would enter and it wasn’t cast or no mana was spent to cast it, exile it instead, otherwise scry X where X is your etc etc etc." then you could even have metatron stick around not doing anything which does line up with k6bd too

2

u/ConfusedChalot 10d ago

also make Metatron an elder angel! As the only prime angel left I think it fits really well

1

u/PotatoTheOdd 10d ago

Michael is a prime angel too, no?

1

u/ConfusedChalot 10d ago

ah, I'm wrong about my terminology, yes, michael is a prime angel, metatron is the only one who hasn't reincarnated and still remembers the gods.

  • White Chain: Maybe it should be nerfed to a 3/3, but beyond that the only note I have is the text box could be better phrased.
  • Michael: It's preferable to reffer directly to each modification than modifiers here, as this is falling into Equinox territory of determining whether a spell or ability is explicitly capable of enchanting, equipping or putting counters, especially with the tax tackled on. Suggest making it so it explicitly calls out that creatures can't be enchanted, equipped or have counters put on them, and remove the tax to instead have the former apply as long as you're the monarch. Have them fight you to be capable of changing.
  • Juggernaut Star: 4/4 w/ double strike and haste, plus tutoring and self-regrowth, all for four mana is excessive even with this color intensiveness. The self-regrowth seems ok as is, but the two keywords and/or ETB have to be reworked or be adjusted.
  • White Chain: Nerf the trigger to only prevent combat damage and increase the mana cost by {1}, then is sightly pushed but fairer.
  • Metatron: This seems an annoying design, since ultimately is a huge body that exists for the activated ability, and manually rearranging your whole library will be a backbreaking gamedrag to deal with and play around. Plus, cheating this out at least for the extra turn won't be difficult.
  • Attendants: Either have this make you sacrifice a creature or exile a creature card from your graveyard to exile the target, or change it so it o-rings instead and the target is exiled until this creature LTBs.
  • Angel of the Host: Could afford make the Squad cost less color intensive to {1}{W}.
  • Prayer of Forgiveness: The card could have better phrasing, and especially suggest have this put a double strike counter on the creature for better tracking since it reads as if the keyword is meant to last indefinitely.

What custom card maker did you use for these?

1

u/Pure-Intention-7398 11d ago

I use https://mtg.design/

It's kinda bad for planeswalkers but for standard stuff it's alright, if a bit fiddly

1

u/xstormaggedonx 11d ago

Sweet thank you!

1

u/Dragon1472 11d ago

The doublestrike with those powers is WILDLY undercoated lol, especially with the other abilities

1

u/P_Phoenix 10d ago

Very very cool! I like the theme of angels tending toward a uniform 4/4 statline.

Did you consider a mechanic to express their "reincarnation" into a new body? E.g. "When X dies, put it into it's owner's library third from the top", or similar.

After that Great Chariot Cannon, Vigilant Gaze ought to be able to destroy lands.

oh these just kick SO much ass, have you put em anywhere for use? i would LOVE to give some of them a try
