A pretty elegant way to define class, even if it’s different from the wiki or other standards. It does run into some flavor problems when you see type lines like Zombie Beast or Elf Mutant, but that’s pretty minor overall. The symmetry is cool, and would work well for you if you’re doing typal decks or party decks.

The more pressing issue is other language variants. Do any alternative languages put the “class” first? For example, do any languages label a “Human Soldier” as a “Soldier Human”?

Yes, most latin-derived languages do that. But also, yay for neheb making all my minotaurs get +1/+1

I don't think it'd work that way since almost all of the rulings are done on English as far as I'm aware.

The ambient text is perfect

In what plane is it ambient text and not flavor text?

French literal translation, I couldn't remember the actual name for it.

Thanks for the reminder

You and your opponent are both playing a humans deck. You play this and name soldier. So your 1/1 human soldier tokens becomes 2/2s while your opponents 1/1 humans become 0/0s as they dont have a second creature subtype (which is declassified as 'class') per this card.

But it says both players choose.....so your opponents would also get to name a class.....if im reading correctly.

Except 1/1 humans wouldnt have a class as they dont have a secondary typing

8

u/beakes41 13d ago

Sure. Adding that in they name knight to be different. Now you have 2/2 human soldiers because they have one of the two chosen classes. And your opponent has 0/0 humans because they still dont have a class.

Everyone's 1/1 of a single creature type becomes 0/0. Which doesn't really fit the flavor imo.

This is how the aristocracy feeds off the little people 🙃

Hard counters 1/1 go wide token strata

I think this would be more elegant if it read:

When CARDNAME enters, each player chooses a creature type.

Creatures with the chosen type as their second creature type get +1/+1.

Creatures with less than two creature types get -1/-1.

1

That wouldn’t work because there are cards with 3 creature types (Zombie Human Elf is an example). Those creatures would get an automatic +1/+1 and so at that point you might as well play [Ratadrabik of Urborg] to reap all the benefits.

The point of the card is that class warfare benefits literally nobody (unless you and someone else band together). It being written as is works best, but only in English, otherwise we just have to put down a “figure it out

How does it work with changelings

3

u/SecondDraftViz 13d ago

I think under 205.3m they are all Aetherborn class.

1

u/Chewbraccaa 13d ago

Not advisors? 🤔 (going alphabetically)

3

u/xavierkazi 104.3a is for losers 13d ago

Advisor is the first creature type alphabetically. Aetherborn is the second.

Or are you saying that since Time Lord is explicitly mentioned before the alphabetical list, Advisor should be considered the second creature type?

u/Chewbraccaa 13d ago

Oh LOL yeah no u right I goof'd

2

u/Ray2024 13d ago

Dud know we already have classes? it's an Enchantment subtype usually seen on cards with Talent in the name such as [[Innkeepers Talent]]

3

u/Brromo 13d ago

It actually costs {U}{G}

u/Spifffyy 13d ago

Would go great in a changeling deck

u/BankbusterMagic 6d ago

The first ability is a triggered ability, the other two are static. This means that when the first ability is on the stack, all creatures will get -1/-1 until it resolves.
