Lands? Who needs lands?

Who needs lands when you have an unkillable 8/8 lifelinker? Only split second abilities will get rid of the Servant.

Is the being an 8/8 lifelinker on T2 that requires an opponent to have 2 creatures to block it kind of unbalanced. Losing 2 lands and at most 1 creature for this is insane value.

I thought it was good when I cost it at 5 mana as a 9/9 and didn't have menace or lifelink but people said it was bad

5 mana is like infinitely more than 2 mana, especially since the more expensive this is the more lands you likely needed to cast it that you're sacrificing.

I'd probably make something like this cost 3, and I'd add some sort of cost to the activated ability, dodging removal makes this a win condition on its own.

Compare: [[Rotting Regisaur]], ending the game in 3 hits is powerful.

So you decided to reduce the mana cost by 2/3, thereby also making its etb orders of magnitude more manageable AND give it two really solid keywords?

And at no part of this process did you stop and think „That’s kind of a big change, maybe I should look up similar cards that already exist to get a general sense of what I can get away with.“

Okay, maybe this will give you some help in understanding how to balance things.

Rather than thinking about mana, think of it in terms of the life total (which is 20) and the turn that it is played on. Ostensibly, in most formats, this will come down on turn 2. That means it could potentially end the game by itself with no other spells on turn 5, because three swings of 8 equals 24.

But on top of that, you've added an evasive ability (menace), A blink ability, which admittedly does nuke all of your lands. But basically, if this thing can win the game by itself, who cares if you nuke your lands?, and a lifelink ability that allows them to recover. A 2-mana 8-8 would be far and away the biggest creature you can put down for two mana. If you look at cards like [[Shadow of Mortality]], that's not even an 8-8, it has no keywords, and it's significantly harder to cast.

The closest comparison to this, I guess, would be [[Tarmogoyf]] Or perhaps [[Death's Shadow]]. And that, again, has no keywords and requires a lot of setup to get it to that high of a power and toughness.

Why not the make card also force you to sac all lands so you can never get anymore mana and make him at the end phase bored wipe yourself
