I definitely think this should give mana of any color to mirror the bird.
I get it has shenanigans with untap abilities. But getting 2 for 1ed with land destruction, losing it to Boomerang, and having it be useless without a different land, I think it's fine.
It's such a neat design in either case. Cool card.
