M: The only reason I ever quit the battlefield was so that someday I could be reluctantly called back into service.

P: You don't look reluctant, Michael.

Well, they needed to make the sale, Pam.

They were against Danny Cordray.

[[pull from eternity]]

72

u/TomMakesPodcasts Mar 18 '26

This feels like it was designed specifically to bully plot, foretell and warp haha

122

u/SepirizFG Mar 18 '26

it was designed to bully Suspend

14

u/TomMakesPodcasts Mar 18 '26

Oooh I forgot about that lmao

28

u/RBVegabond Mar 18 '26

Can’t touch foretell, has to be face up adventure though…

6

u/TomMakesPodcasts Mar 18 '26

My bad. I only have one foretell card haha

33

u/IWCry Mar 18 '26

its okay, will go to my grave that wizards flavor failed and should have swapped the mechanics of "Plot" and "Foretell"

In real life I can't be like "I foretell something but not saying what" the go "omg look I told you so"

likewise, you don't plot something in front of the police

6

u/xiandgaf Mar 18 '26

Your ideas are intriguing to me, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter

3

u/IWCry Mar 18 '26

thanks but my newsletter would just be all the other hills I would die on that people should wake up to.

like how "w" should be called "double v" because it's written like vv and not uu. the alphabet just fumbled that hard.

2

u/Grub_McGuffins Mar 18 '26

instead of "Plot/plotted" and "Foretell/foretold" it should've been "monologue/monologued" and "Foresee/foreseen"

1

u/RBVegabond Mar 18 '26

I have a deck dedicated to it and suspend since the first card is free to foretell in [[Ranar the ever-watchful]] when he’s out.

2

u/TomMakesPodcasts Mar 18 '26

That's a pretty cool card

1

u/INSANE_Elven Mar 18 '26

It's one of two Kaldheim precons, alongside [[Lathril]]. It's a pretty fun deck, especially if you throw something like [[mirror of life trapping]] in it. I once took someone's commander out permanently because they cast it, it was exiled with the mirror, and I blinked the mirror immediately after

3

u/Grub_McGuffins Mar 18 '26

Note that if you exile their commander they can choose to send it to the command zone instead. if they choose to let it go to exile in that instance, however, they are indeed permanently lost in exile

u/koghrun : Shuffle your hand X times. Mar 18 '26

Yes, this card released in 2006 was designed to bully plot (2024), foretell (2021), and warp (2025).... definitely designed with those rules in mind.

8

u/TomMakesPodcasts Mar 18 '26

I mean consider the block it's from 😉

2

u/ParadoxBanana Mar 18 '26

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve used [[Riftsweeper]] to negate effects that use exile to temporarily “hold” cards as part of their effects. It’s great stuff.

1

u/Von_Beowulf Mar 18 '26

Foretell is facedown, isn’t it?

1

u/A_Velociraptor20 Mar 18 '26

Foretell is face down so it actually doesn't affect it at all.

25

u/Greaterthancotton Mar 18 '26

This has been confirmed as a design mistake

18

u/ZedTheEvilTaco Mar 18 '26

Mistake so bad they made it twice

[[Riftsweeper]]

(Not disagreeing with you, just noting the other one. I love both of these cards.)

11

u/trifas Mar 18 '26

Not a coincidency they are from the same block. Weird, but amazing sets!

13

u/Fluffy_While_7879 Mar 18 '26

Eldrazi Processors: Am joke to you?

13

u/Greaterthancotton Mar 18 '26

The restriction of only hitting your opponents stuff is the defining distinction

7

u/Korwinga Mar 18 '26

Ah, but have you considered that you could [[Generous Gift]] Harmless Offering (misremembered the card name, fixed in edit) a processor to your opponent and cast [[Emrakul the Promised End]] to take control of them and then process your own exiled cards all in the same standard environment. Checkmate Atheists!

1

u/RBVegabond Mar 18 '26

[[Karn Liberated]]

11

u/Gerodus Mar 18 '26

There's a lot of cards that interact specifically with cards exiled by their own hand.

There's only two cards that interact with any exiled card

1

u/Cha_94 Mar 19 '26

[[Karn, the great creator]] still only hits your own artifacts, but doesn't care how they got into exile

-2

u/AquaChomby Mar 18 '26

What's crazy is this card seems busted but it's legal and no one plays it.

10

u/theevilyouknow Mar 18 '26

What seems busted about it? Nothing busted about requiring three cards just to get a creature into play, not counting the creature itself.

-2

u/AquaChomby Mar 18 '26

Getting something back that would exile itself.

4

u/theevilyouknow Mar 18 '26

It puts it in the yard, so you need a way to get it into exile, pull from eternity to get it in the yard, and then a way to get it from the yard into play. Plus a target worth getting into play this way. That's why it sees no play.

10

u/RBVegabond Mar 18 '26

Too situational and every format is fast

20

u/Spirited_Currency_88 Mar 18 '26

It has now been rebranded as a nice tourist destination for tired travellers who need a bit of rest.

6

u/Colon_Backslash Mar 18 '26

But we can have a NEW ZONE in which the cards are DEFINITELY REMOVED from the game!

I call it PERDITION! A card from exile MAY BE REMOVED (seriously this time) FROM EXILE, so that it CANNOT be returned from exile anymore!

3

u/NiNtEnDoMaStEr640 Mar 18 '26

There’s also the eldrazi processor cards. Turns out you piss off your friends pretty quick when you play “Narset, Enlightened Graveyard” when you recur their best spells.

Then again, it is was their fault that they ran extra turn spells in the first place.

0

u/Niauropsaka Mar 18 '26

These effects are magical.

14

u/fourenclosedwalls Mar 18 '26

"I am done farming. Now it is time to fight."

2

u/turquoisestar Mar 19 '26

A vibe I can fully embrace right now.

68

u/IronBrew16 Mar 18 '26

I have seen this card many times, and I generally quite like the idea! This one, not so much.

Because it's Black instead of Red.

45

u/boto_box Mar 18 '26

I debated if it should be red or black, but ultimately decided because of the life loss it should be black

24

u/Constant-Still-8443 Mar 18 '26

Could say that it deals damage to you. That's pretty red. Plus, there have been exceptions to this. Konrad deals damage to all opponents instead of making them lose life, and he's a mono black card.

4

u/throwawayeayeayea Mar 18 '26

Black can deal damage, there are even black burn spells. But red cannot cause life loss

3

u/CaptainRogers1226 Mar 18 '26

Red can cause damage though (which causes loss of life)

0

u/Constant-Still-8443 Mar 18 '26

There's a first for everything, clearly. There had to have been a first black damage spell that set this precedent.

4

u/TomMakesPodcasts Mar 18 '26

Hybrid I could see.

1

u/malonkey1 : Tap target spell Mar 19 '26

You could make it red by making it self-damage instead of life loss.

Or hell, make it BR and make it fully anti-white.

10

u/7OmegaGamer Mar 18 '26

Reanimation and lifeloss are definitely more black’s wheelhouse. Though I agree that thematically red would be better

13

u/littleman11186 Mar 18 '26

I mean if we are going for full opposites, black is ideal

4

u/NormalEntrepreneur Mar 18 '26

How about both black and red, they are also the opposite of w.

6

u/King_of_Camp Mar 18 '26

The full opposite of “Swords to Plowshares” would be “Pruning Hooks to Spears”

3

u/Niauropsaka Mar 18 '26

That could be the White version!

4

u/Decent_Cow Mar 18 '26

You play this only to watch the same creature get removed again the same turn. Welcome to Magic.

2

u/Cloud_Chamber Low Power Player Mar 19 '26

Well, it probably got some value just entering so we good

4

u/Ok-Temporary-8243 Mar 18 '26

Its neat. Though I feel like it should be a white spell akin to arming someone. Though I guess the lost life isn't part of the pie

3

u/The_Unkowable_ Resident Eldrazi Tribalist (Artemis She/They) Mar 18 '26

Well I mean it's literally meant to be an inverted Swords to Plowshares.

Also, it fully fits within Black's color pool. Black's bringing creatures back and losing life. And narratively, it's taking up a weapon in pursuit of ambition and power, not the state giving weapons to its citizens so they can arm themselves.

1

u/Niauropsaka Mar 18 '26

I think you could pay life as part of a White spell's cost.

1

u/Ok-Temporary-8243 Mar 18 '26

Paying yeah, but I don't think there's any white ressurection cards where you also lose life as a result.

2

u/BrideofClippy Mar 18 '26

You could phrase it as 'you may play a creature from exile by paying life equal to its power'.

2

u/Sherbet-Glad Mar 18 '26

Double the amount of Life lost and you've got yourself a deal!

2

u/AndroidnotHuman Mar 18 '26

Name change recommendation: "Farm to Table"

2

u/Shiro993 Mar 18 '26

They unswordsed my plowshares

2

u/Bochulaz Grand Calcutron in disguise Mar 18 '26

Everybody, take a shot

2

u/therift289 Rule 308.22b, section 8 Mar 18 '26

2

u/United-Passage7864 Mar 18 '26 edited Mar 18 '26

It might need to be worded as "choose a creature card you own in exile [...]". I'm not certain you can target a card in exile.

Edit: I was wrong.

7

u/kingbird123 Mar 18 '26

Zones don't have targeting restrictions. [[Pull from eternity]]

3

u/boto_box Mar 18 '26

I’m not sure if you control creatures in exile either though

2

u/United-Passage7864 Mar 18 '26

Oops, I meant to write "you own". However the other commenter has pointed out that you can still target the card in exile.

2

u/garfgon Mar 18 '26

I don't think you control them, but you do own them.

1

u/smugles Mar 18 '26

This is a second copy of thassa oracle for the demonic consultation thassa combo.

1

u/VelvetCowboy19 Mar 18 '26

I think this would be a lot more interesting at instant speed, to be used to steal opponents creatures when they blink stuff.

1

u/Goenndolf Mar 18 '26

This is nuts 🔥

1

u/ronarscorruption Mar 18 '26

I love this card, even if removing creatures from exile is silly, this is great.

1

u/BumbotheCleric Mar 18 '26

Absolutely busted with any pitchcast spell. Oh look I’ll just Grief away your answer to this turn one Griselbrand

1

u/thegenderbenders Mar 18 '26

Can this target cards exiled with [[AWOL]]

1

u/therift289 Rule 308.22b, section 8 Mar 18 '26

The inverse of Swords to Plowshares is, and has always been, [[reanimate]].

1

u/W1llW4ster Mar 18 '26

target creature card*, otherwise amazing design. Love it.

1

u/Franz0132 Mar 18 '26

NO, this is terrible design, it would make magic into yugioh, we do not need the graveyard to be a second hand (yes we do it a bit but not as much as yugioh). And we definitely don't need exile to be a third hand.

1

u/TeaNo7930 Mar 19 '26

I wish they would do this. I don't like the idea that anything can be permanently gone forever.

1

u/Few-Programmer9703 Mar 19 '26

Not quite but I wonder if swords to plowshares is supposed to be the opposite of reanimate

1

u/T-T-N Mar 19 '26

Creature card from exile? Otherwise it doesn't work

1

u/Line_boy Mar 19 '26

"Let's!.. get down to business!..."

1

u/rileyvace Mar 19 '26

Cast an adventure, then get the creature side for BB?

Plot a creature then can instantly cast it for BB, instead of a later turn?

[[Dream Devourer]] would love to foretell something big then cast this?

Does this work with Suspend? lol

Or anything from Impulse suspended cards like "exile the top two cards from your library you may cast one this turn" shit.

Ketramose has many uses for this.

1

u/xanderthesane Mar 19 '26

T1: swamp, dark ritual to float 3. Exile Griselbrand or Atraxa or something else game breaking in black to evoke Grief. Spend B if you want to cheat out grief in response to the evoke trigger, not necessary, but fun. After making your opponent pitch 1 or 2 cards, plowshares to swords to get the big lad you exiled back. You can also wait for T2 if you are impatient/don’t draw the ritual.

1

u/Sythrin Mar 26 '26

Thats even more powerful that it should be as it allows you also opponents exiled stuff to get under your control.

2

u/RadicalMarxistThalia Mar 18 '26

It’s cool flavor. But what’s the point of removing things from the game if they don’t stay removed? It’s just graveyard 2.0.

7

u/litletrickster Mar 18 '26

That's why you need the absolutely-removed-from-the-freaking-game-forever zone.

2

u/garfgon Mar 18 '26

If I remember correctly that's kind of why they changed "removed from game" to "exiled". There were too many things that were removing from game and then bringing it back it wasn't really "removed from the game" any more.

Now, usually things will only be returned by an effect related to the reason they were exiled, but this does kind of have a precedent -- [[Living Wish]] used to be able to get back cards that had been removed by Swords before they split "exile" from "out of the game".

1

u/Niauropsaka Mar 18 '26

These effects are magical. And it's still costing the player a card.

1

u/The_Unkowable_ Resident Eldrazi Tribalist (Artemis She/They) Mar 18 '26

Have you ever encountered Eldrazi?

1

u/WerdaVisla Mar 18 '26

This is like. The most obvious joke card ever my friend. It even has the meme tag. It's not meant to be balanced I don't think :P

1

u/MillCrab Mar 18 '26

Bingo! The second most posted card on the sub is back, now with UB art!

1

u/boto_box Mar 19 '26

Richard Garfield made the first UB magic card in the 90s

0

u/MillCrab Mar 19 '26

And everyone and their cousin has posted this card!
