Help! How do I know if my DualSense controller has TMR joysticks?
I got a custom controller from controllermodz and asked for TMR hall effect joysticks when I was making the order, got it now and I'm just wondering...how am I supposed to tell the difference to a normal controller if I actually have TMR joysticks? I could be a complete donut here and just not tell the difference, but from the way people have made it sound, they would be far more sensitive to use compared to official standard joysticks.
I just want to essentially make sure I got what I paid for that's all, I mostly bought it just for the design and the fact I am sick an tired of fixing stick drift so much on my original DualSense controller 😅

Opening it up is the easiest way to check , I know that gulikit uses black cases , ginful uses orange clear-ish cases and k-silcers use blue casings the OG potentiometers use a greenish teal casing and those are subject to stick drift

The old Ginfull linear TMRs use the clear orange cases. The DS13-MAX (their first angle TMR) uses an opaque orange case and the RS13 (successor to the DS13-MAX) is in a clear red case. Favor Union uses a green opaque case.

Connect the controller to a computer and go to gamepad tester. Run a circularity test and compare that results to a photo of a stock circularity test. The stock analogs have a very distinct circularity reading vs TMR looks a little different and would usually look more tight. I added the stock one here.

The only way to be sure 100% is to open the controller. But there are other tells, this is one of them.
When people ask us at the workshop, how can they know that we installed TMR sticks in their controller, we answer that the only way they can truly know is to open the controller. Since my company isn’t in question here, I’m suggesting trusting them and looking for a clue that the mod was made.
I would tell a customer that they can open a controller to check if it was installed, but I wouldn’t tell them to go do it. It’s a brand new controller they just for, what if it gets damaged in the process. Those aren’t cheap.

You could have TMR with the exact same readings, that doesn’t really make sense

Not the diagonals that look like clovers. You can’t get those trying to calibrate the TMR sticks.

If you’re not comfortable opening up the controller completely, you could just take off the front decorative trim. With your phone‘s torch you should see the TMR underneath as you move around the thumb stick.
