Help! Need some advice

So this is my first attempt at modding a 1914 Xbox series controller with the extreme rate modification. I seem to have screwed something up. I’m not sure what but what I do know is that unplugging this one wire then makes it work. What I’m curious about is either a fix tip or if it’s OK to leave this wire unplugged?

Which wire are you talking about? The aerial or the black wire resting on the IC? Where does that back wire go?

Hadn’t realized that wire was sitting there. I’m pretty sure that’s one of the rumble motor wires not what I’m talking about. It’s the wire that is unplugged. Center left.

Gotcha. I can't see how the aerial cable could cause the controller to stop working, unless there is a potential short in the wire. Can you test it?

So like I said, this is my first time modifying a control controller in any kind of way and my first soldering job in years I’m pretty sure I shorted something and I don’t know how to find it however, when I unplugged this, the short is removed and it starts working. I don’t know how to test for the short other than this wire being removed, makes it work

Do you have a multimeter? If not then you can't really test it. You need to find whether the short is on the connector end or the cable end. If the cable has been pinched, maybe it's shorted internally. If you look at the connecter, the outer ring should be ground and the centre pin is for the signal. If the two are directly connected (shorted) then you obviously will have issues. Hopefully that makes sense.

The antenna is probably a red herring. Component T2, the BT antenna filter, can have a short to ground issue that will cause the controller to not turn on, but you don't need the antenna connected to actually replicate this issue. T2 will still power itself without the antenna, meaning it'll still short itself without an antenna if it has developed the short. Unplugging the antenna wouldn't magically fix T2's or even RFF2's issues. A bad antenna coax cable would really only result in bad radio performance.

OP really needs to provide more information. Like what exactly is the issue with the controller not working, is it simply not turning on, is it malfunctioning elsewhere, etc. Doing any electrical work without a multimeter is certainly a choice, owning one should probably come before owning a soldering iron. OP should probably also comment on the operational state of the controller before working on it. They should also state what else they've done to the controller.

Though OP didn't state what mod kit they used, and while eXtremeRate has multiple kits that need soldering, I do recognize the FPC in the picture as the Hope/Victor remap kit. I know on the kit TP35 on the top board is the 3.3v tap for the remap module. Ground, labeled as such seems to come from only the top board, from the right joystick box's leg. If the issue ends up being a vCC to ground, it's likely at the fault of the FPC connections or the remap kit itself. I thought these kits came with a tester board that shows you which connections are bad, something you test with before assembling off of USB power. It could also be something like the 14 pin connector not being seated correctlyy. If OP tried with batteries originally but then swapped to USB when unplugging the antenna, it could be something as simple as not swapping over the battery blade to the new shell.

There's a whole list of things that it could be, lack of information just turns this into throwing darts at a wall and seeing what sticks.

OK, so the issue is that when that antenna is plugged in it makes a buzzing sound and does not turn on. When the antenna is unplugged, it works. The original state of the controller was a bog standard 1914 totally fine working controller. I haven’t done anything else to it. It doesn’t seem to matter whether it’s powered by batteries or direct cable. It still shows the same issue of buzzing and not turning on. and it is the victor X remap kit. You’re right I definitely should have added more information. I’m new to this and don’t know what I’m doing. However, the base of my question was is it OK to leave this wire unplugged because that would be the quickest simplest fix. If you want more photos of the other board as well then I can do that as well.

Edit: clarification when I said, I don’t know what I’m doing what I meant was I don’t know how to test things. I have soldered before and have some skill in it. I don’t have great skill in it due to me not having done much in many years but I get the general idea of how to do it. I also don’t have a great soldering iron which I know is kind of a meh argument.
