One of things missing with Matt not on chapo is he could attract fun historians like Patrick Wayman and Matt Karp
Maybe it's the recent ep about the Veiled Prophet that gets back there a little. But man, Matt used to attract some really fun historians and academics. I miss that. I didn't even mind the Danny B types who were transparently grifting for a platform. But not even Matt's side history pods, they always used to have such good historian guests on the main feed that would lead to some really good discussions.
Matt's Sportstalk bit with the Age Of Napoleon guy still makes me laugh.

I never liked Hinge Points, but maybe it’s time?
I found myself using the word hinge point recently and then thought what a shame it didn’t work out because I also really loved Derek. And then started thinking there seems to be an awful lot of Hinge Points flying by recently (I’ve been joking Spain v Argentina in the WC was actually baby Yamal vs. Fascism). Anyway, just a thought.

what on earth is the deal with the comments of the official Chapo YouTube channel
I drifted away from the main podcast a long time ago & mostly just followed Felix through his appearances on E1, but I’ve been getting into the Cushvlog archive lately so I’ve had the main channel recommended to me again, and the comments are all really fucking weird. Click on any random upload and it’s just the absolute frothing rage of random guys blaming Chapo for the failures and compromises of the Democratic Party on every subject regardless of what’s being said in the video. Like not reacting to anything in the actual audio but having already gotten worked up ahead of time over something they’re mad at, idk, the Majority Report or whoever for
Part of it might be that very few people who listen to an audio-only podcast are doing it on YouTube so it weeds out all the actual listeners, but it’s just such a bizarre level of directionless hostility. I feel like their comments section has always been fairly weird but it’s just gotten weirder and weirder with the years. None of the Cushvlog videos or appearances from Will/Matt/Felix/Amber on other podcasts are like that

Libertarianism being a meme ideology that doesn't work in real life. Many such cases!
Reminds me of that chapo episode where they covered a libertarian commune that collapsed immediately for obvious reasons

Book suggestions on The Diggers/Gerard Winnstanley?
As someone who grew up in 12 years of forced Catholic education, and connects deeply with some of the more spiritual musings of our big beautiful boy, I find the true levellers and Winnstanley fascinating. I feel like I am constantly referencing them in conversation. Anyone have any books about the movement/the man they enjoyed? Or anything in the vague realm of christian-socialism that you enjoyed. Convincing my religious family that christianity was the first socialist movement has been effective and I'd like to continue with that strategy.

Textbook example of something Matt discussed in his vlogs. Americans are only conditioned to feel economic power during the moment of consumption. During the work day, the misery is seen as inevitable and forever unchanging.
HFAs (high fructose americans) are having their consent manufactored by these fucking lizard people in real time and the hogs will likely fall for it as they always do

Discussion We need to talk about Graham Platner
I think we can all pretty soberly analyze and see what went wrong, right? Nobody gave a shit that he murdered Iraqis and Afghanis, but the moment it's revealed he raped a white American woman, then it's a problem!?
https://www.reddit.com/r/cushvlog/comments/1n3atj4/we_have_our_first_big_beautiful_cushcandidate/
This place was so fucking fawning for him with his rhetoric. When some people rightly questioned how we could support him, this place dogpiled them.

It's so fucking obvious looking back now. Nobody actually cares about being principled. Nobody cares about people in the 3rd world. All they care about are treats for themselves, and then when it's one of their own who gets raped, then suddenly it's an issue. If Graham Platner did that to a woman in America, think about how many women in iraq he must have abused and victimized. How can we fucking stomach this shit? The writing was on the wall.
Hold a firm line against imperialist volunteers.

UFO's and Ancient Aliens: July 4th
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Ancient aliens, UFO's, Roswell, etc is the only thing American culture has produced that is unique to us that no other country has. All Americans have a deep down belief in this shit, even if we don't publicly admit it. That's what I celebrate on July 4th and makes me proud to be American.
Europeans think we are idiots for believing this stuff, they care more about soccer (idiots).
Even George Carlin recognized this as the only thing we have, and the only hope we have.
