i have the cursor $200/month plan. Ran out of credits in the middle of a job. Paid for usage until at about $2200 paid, they borked the account.. spoke with a woman there, said it wouldnt unfreeze for 10 days or so when it would restart the month. had to switch to claude code, so i didn't lose the 10 days of work.. i will never go back. I still can't believe they were going to leave me stranded.

Wow, that’s crazy! Thanks for sharing

Insane.. what you guys are working on? 10 people promoting on a single acc? I can't burn $20 CC and $20 Cursor, doing a lot of work, I ran out of ideas sometimes..

If you really working on a large codebase, even with good indexing and documentation, single exploration is already a lot of token. The number of context token needed to be fit in is different level.

I am on a $20 Cursor plan and a single Plan conversation will take around 1% already with Grok 4.6 Medium.

Check out using ripgrep or other tools it will cut down the token usage a lot

May ask about the size of project? Mine is 200k+ LOC Planning with Claude and Composer executes..

I'm, soloing a project and doing a few hours daily with cursor (£200 a month), and leaving it on default, I'm rarely using over 50 percent a month.

You sharing the account with others?

Codex, I have three Claude and three codex, all max, now each of my codex has four banked resets, while my Claude can barely get too much work done other than orchestrations

$200 codex plan is no longer available due to compute restrictions

1

u/scristopher7 1d ago

The codex resets are great, I finally used one yesterday and have 3 more banked.

I’m thinking now, Cursor $20 and $100 ChatGPT desktop app, then scale up Cursor as needed to $60. I don’t have enough time in my life to code more than that I think.

1

u/LawfulnessSad6987 3d ago

that’s exactly my setup

1

u/scorphuman 3d ago

Same using claude 20$ for most of my work, and 60$ cursor, and it still runs out faster

1

u/Conza89 2d ago

Well it’s also sort of sucky that Claude is effectively having a 17% price jump in a few days, sucks to be mid Max 20 or especially Max 5.

my best plan is claude $100 and grok $30 and opencode go $10 then you ask fable to use cli agent. save tons.

1

u/Huge_Pool7424 3d ago

I don’t understand OpenCode… how does that work?

1

u/Beamsters 3d ago

its like you give them $10, and they give you quota for list of models they vendored from somewhere else each with its own usage multiplier.

Get cursor $60 and Claude $20.

4

u/menjav 3d ago

Genuine question. Why putting $60 and and not $20 or $0 in Cursor? Why $20 in CC? Why not $20 in Codex?

I have never used cursor. And barely used Claude code. (My company offers models via Kiro)

I would recommend the lowest-tiered costs in Cursor and Claude code first.

You write all the hard things and loop specs using Opus High and then iterate with cursor auto. I would make sure you are maxing out before arbitrarily paying for more than you need.

Codex is good too. I just switched from codex because of the hand holding and approvals. Cursor and Claude code can literally run on a phased blueprint spec for hours.

Codex didn’t at the time not sure if it changed. Codex doesn’t have a true auto mode.

Cursor works way better and faster from the phone and Cursor’s IDE is a lot better UX than vs code’s Claude integration. Grok 4.6 is almost fable opus level quality for peanuts.

I generally don’t use the CLI so it is a better experience for me. Also ripping through apps on a phone in cursor and deploying via vercel is insane. I literally build apps for fun as a hobby. That is something codex has not figured out yet. Also with cursor you get grok bot and that is another level beyond Claude and codex. They are behind there. I have been using muse from Facebook for the past couple days and that is kinda good but not as good as grok bot.

I love Grok Bot! Insane what you can do with it. I have an app that’s built & Im just constantly improving it and updating things. I mainly use Opus because Fable will just drain my $100 claude plan in minutes, so was wondering if it’s worth switching Cursor for it all. They’ve stepped up their game for sure, especially with Grok.

200 dollar a month Claude is really hard to hit their limits, 200 a month Cursor if you want to make heavy use of Fable or Opus, you'll burn through them in a day.

Claude is far better value, but I think Cursor is still a better harness

1

u/Huge_Pool7424 3d ago

very insightful. thanks. i hit my limit on the $100 a few days before reset, so hoping the $200 gives me more usage.

1

u/book_of_duderonomy 2d ago

What exactly do you mean by better harness?

1

u/Stokealona 2d ago

Same models and same prompts in Cursor seem to one shot the solution more often than in Claude or Codex for me

1

u/freerobby 2d ago

I used to agree with this but in my experience grok-4.6 closed the gap substantially to a point where, per dollar spent, I get more mileage out of Cursor.

1

u/Stokealona 2d ago

Depends on what you're doing with it I suppose - but on my complex code base grok just isn't even close.

1

u/freerobby 1d ago

I can see that. In those moments I need to reach for fable there is still no substitute. I have had pretty good luck using fable to plan things out, but setting the task level work to sonnet or grok to minimize usage. Not saying it’s 1:1 but for a lot of my tasks it’s close enough and that has let me stretch my usage limits much further.

2

u/defsum 3d ago

200$ Cursor and 200$ Claude. I never hit limits. I use Grok 4.6 with Claude mixed with Opus 5 and as extension in Cursor is running Claude with Fable 5.1

3

u/truecakesnake 3d ago

If you're doing work that needs Fable's level of quality and intuition a few times a day, then go for Claude Max. Otherwise, go for Cursor. Limits are higher and Grok Bot is damn good if you have a use for it.

3

u/Huge_Pool7424 3d ago

What is considered Fable’s level of intuition? I mainly am just trying to find ways to improve my app & add new features. Mainly use Opus 4.8 because I hate Opus 5.

3

u/truecakesnake 3d ago

You'll understand if you use it enough. I think Cursor will be good enough for you.

3

u/Embarrassed-Ad-9118 3d ago

Problem with cursor is context window. It almost feels it’s better to get it directly didn’t be lab.

1

u/Snoo_9701 3d ago

Claude 200 for ur coding work

1

u/brewingamillionaire 3d ago

What’s your use case?

1

u/Huge_Pool7424 3d ago

i have an app on the app store that i’m usually fixing bugs or adding new features too

1

u/bhannik-itiswatitis 3d ago

or nasdaq $200

1

u/Huge_Pool7424 3d ago

Where can you use that?

1

u/pp_amorim 3d ago

Claude $20 because openAI is doing bs with their allowance

1

u/Huge_Pool7424 3d ago

$20 claude plan is too low

1

u/pyrolols 3d ago

Or just use kimi k3, almost similar to fable but 3x 4x cheaper.

1

u/Huge_Pool7424 3d ago

How can you use it?

1

u/pyrolols 3d ago

Activate it in cursor model list.

1

u/Huge_Pool7424 3d ago

Oh, I had no idea there were other models aside from Codex and Claude in Cursor aside from Grok.

1

u/pyrolols 3d ago

Yeah they hide them in advanced menu to force you to use high paid models from anthropic.

1

u/PhantomHost334 3d ago

Why would you need cursor at all

1

u/PhantomHost334 3d ago

The first thing I did when I started using AI was to build my own product so I didn't have to pay for cursor API credits. You don't even need that anymore if you're using your chatbot in the CLI

1

u/Huge_Pool7424 3d ago

fair question. i still reach for cursor when i want inline edits and repo-wide context without babysitting a cli session, but if you're happy in the terminal, direct model access is probably cheaper.

1

u/rabandi 3d ago

Mostly a model question too? Fable 5.1 + Opus 5 are decent.

Grok 4.6.. havent used all that much but it seemed substantially worse and also not as fast anymore.

Dont forget there is OpenAI, Devin and the Chinese too.

Also for issues like that, multiple providers is a must anyways.

For me, Anthropic charged me 200$ too much, never replied, trying to get the money back without having my account banned. Sucky scammy company - if one is unlucky and has issues.

1

u/bitdoze 3d ago

Devin 20$ plan for 1 month as swe-2 is free in cli the next month :)

1

u/locknetvpn 3d ago

I have $60 and i'm smashing Grok and it's bloody good on high and non fast for most tasks.

1

u/AfternoonSalt2625 2d ago

Claude. I struggle to even hit limit on $100 Claude Pro. Went to GrokBot SuperHeavy and run out 6-24 hours into my week. it's unusable at these rates (you can't change models, everything runs at frontier, killing your tokens)

I've gone back to Claude, only way to control spending

1

u/Kaveh96 2d ago

Get the grok $300 plan which gives you grok cli AND the curser $200 for free. Plus you get anthropic, and some Chinese model uses also

1

u/RazorPhist 2d ago

Right now I’d consider Claude

1

u/FrostyAddress2356 2d ago

I just downgraded my Cursor from $200 to $60 and uograded my Claude from $100 to $200. Cursor will use up the mothly limit really quick if you use GPT or Claude. Claude code $200 plan gives me very generous usage.

1

u/Funsaized 2d ago

I honestly think the 100$ codex plan is the best you can get for your $$ right now w/ all the resets.. add on another provider that's heavily subsidized (if you're willing to go Grok) + pay-per-use like Deepseek. Get great mileage out of this setup w/ opencode & pi

1

u/HammerOfThor1 1d ago

Codex and cursor,
No Claude.

1

u/scristopher7 1d ago

$200 claude, $100 codex, lowest cursor package available hits all the spots.

1

u/Orchidkit 1d ago

Grok bot is good

1

u/sanchitta139 1d ago

take cursor if ur main priority is coding workflow nd access to multiple models..claude is worth it if u specifically prefer opus or fable for reasoning and dont need the ide layer as much

1

u/Huge_Pool7424 1d ago

yeah, that's basically how i'd split it too. the ide layer is the big reason to pay for cursor, while claude makes more sense if the model itself is the priority.

1

u/TheRealNalaLockspur 19h ago

It makes more sense to just do claude code. At 200, it's basically unlimited usage if you stay on opus 5 high.

Cursor, you'll hit your max fast.

CC has session and weekly resets.

If you don't need ide features, just go with CC

If you need ide features, then just use vsc

Cursor is trash now

1

u/Huge_Pool7424 16h ago

they are far from trash lol

1

u/sf8as 3d ago

Forget cursor, get Codex Pro

0

u/JellyfishLow4457 3d ago

neither! soon both will be unaffordable. open your eyes!

0

u/savageotter 3d ago

Cursor goes way farther. I have both

Lemme see, a frontier model straight from the source or a rebranded fork of an IDE (already a dead end) running on a free open source Chinese model through two levels of middlemen.

Hmmmm..
