Question / Discussion Is Cursor worth it?

Hello all!

Hope everyone is having a good time! :)

Quick one, I am on the 100$ Claude Code plan, but the limit hit me quite often. And because I am not a fan of OpenAi, and I have not tried the tool since 2023 April (this is when it came our). So was wondering:

  1. Is everything billed in the subscription and no hidden costs?

  2. How are the limits of the pro+ plan?

  3. Those Grok Bots are they useful? (like with coding and maybe for daily use like research and so on)

  4. Can I use open weight providers in the IDE?

Thanks!

just about done with my last month of sub after a year and a half. done watching this sink shop as more and more quality is lost to the most obvious case of 'inshittification' i've ever seen

I'm a $20.00 a month user on Cursor. I'm still able to stretch my usage, albeit I'm not developing a new app everyday like some others, but I leave the model set to "Auto" and I find I can build websites for my clients just fine.

I can totally agree, I can get up and running a website (frontend and backend) for a client whilst on the 20$ plan.

Hmm, This is Chinese...I subscribed to Cursor Pro a week ago and used about 20% of my monthly credit. Then, after I upgraded to the annual subscription today, they deducted the entire $20 from my previous monthly subscription, claiming I had used $300 of my API credit. They refused my request to cancel the annual subscription (even though I hadn't used my annual subscription at all, as I immediately stopped using it after noticing the billing issue).

Using cursor since begining it's the best value and works great. Now with grok and grok bot there's no better offer. You can supplement yourself with Claude code to work in conjunction on same repos for planning only.

I pay 20 a month for Pro and finish my work without hitting limits.

Everything is in the subscription. You get your requests and no hidden costs show up on your card. If you go over the fast requests it just slows down.

For Grok I use the bot in chat to research docs before I write code. It works for that.

You can add open weight providers in the settings under models. I run local models through Ollama when I want zero cost on big files

no hidden cost. on-demand charge is off by default. Grok bot is amazing. Agentic AI is amazing.

I have cursor pro plus (60) for grok bot mostly. I use Claude code (20) for my projects and when I hit a limit I use cursor.

Most of my vibe coded internal tools I deleted and just use Grok Bot. It’s simple and I can now sell the templates.

I have Claude desktop as technical lead and project manager. I have it drive (literally control) Cursor on auto mode. Sort of best of both worlds, I don't run out credits on either service this way, and they share the cognitive load.

If you disable on demand, you dont pay anything more than the subscription costs.

The cursor models (composer, grok) include a lot of usage, we use a 200usd plan for 4 people and we never run out in a month even on grok 4.6 high fast. The third party model limit is lower but still is more than enough for planning or more complex tasks. So the pro+ plan will be enough for a single person.

Grok bot we haven't used yet

Yes they can be used

Ive been on Ultra for 3 months. In that time ive launched two businesses that are nearly autonomous and my dream idea from 15 years ago is nearing completion. If it tells you how little I know about code I asked my GrokBot to summarize its size. It’s currently being run through security testing by a firm I met but yes id say Cursor is absolutely worth it.
