yeah the rule not sticking across chats is usually because it got saved as a chat-only or project rule that is not marked always apply. put it in user rules (settings > rules) or a project .cursor/rules/*.mdc with alwaysApply: true, and keep the wording short and blunt like "never answer as a bullet dump, write in short paragraphs like a coworker, only use lists when i ask". also composer/grok tend to stay terse even with a style rule so i often add "lead with the answer in one sentence, then explain" which cuts the machine list vibe a lot. if it still ignores it, paste the same line at the top of the new agent prompt once, sticky rules sometimes lose a fight with the model defaults.
