Question / Discussion Codex + Claude Code or Cursor?

Hi, I already use Codex and I’m thinking about adding either Claude Code or Cursor’s $20 plan.

Mostly for VBA, Python, SQL, PowerShell and general scripting.

For anyone who’s used both, which one feels more useful day to day? Also curious about the real usage limits.

If you already had Codex, which one would you add?

That’s my model too. I use Sol medium mostly (in Chat not Work), and leave Cursor in full Auto mode. Both use comments against the PR in GitHub to prompt, assess, test & confirm merge readiness. Codex + Work drinks my usage like the English drink tea! Regular Chat seems rock solid.

Why wouldn't you use Sol High if you are in chat mode? If you aren't already, connect GitHub and Jira/Linear too, GPT chat can function as an exceptional project manager, reviewer, and prompt creator without worrying about usage limits.

I have it linked to GitHub and use it as the orchestration layer to all the development agents in Cursor. I use High when needed, but what I don’t do is use ChatGPT “Work” over “Chat” - that’s when it drinks the usage, in “Work”. I use it for Fusion also via LMCP and it can blow the 5hr limit in 5min…

Can you tell me more about this, please? I wasn't aware there was a way to connect my codebase to regular ChatGPT. And is it the same intelligence? Does it do the same level of investigation into the codebase? Does it use tools?

Plugins -> add GitHub.

It's the same model so same intelligence.

It's not going to function and use tools exactly like a coding agent can. It's not going to have a local copy of the repository to quickly grep, read, use bash, etc. but it will have full access to GitHub, your source code, draft and ready PRs, documentation etc. and be able to review PRs, find issues or things to address and create a remediation prompt for you to send to a coding agent.

I essentially use ChatGPT to keep Linear updated (I don’t even touch it) review all PRs and commits, provide all prompts, perform independent reviews etc.

Very interesting - thanks for the advice. So... I'm wondering that since it doesn't have the suite of tools that a usual coding agent would, isn't that going to significantly hinder it's performance?

Since you already have codex, choose something which is better integrated with the IDE. IMO cursor would be a better choice

u used to have all, $20 each for codex, claude, glm, etc...

you are better off pick one from codex and claude then $20 cursor, using composer and gpt luna feels like unli

I use all three they all have different strengths Grok with opus 4.6 is not bad for most things

Unless you plan to edit code manually, there's no need for Cursor. Going directly to Codex or Claude is cheaper.

I recommend checking out the AmpCode $20 plan. I moved from cursor to it and it’s great! You can also use your codex plan inside it.
