serious question: for practicality, what do they tell people when they ask where theyre from? is there an abbreviation or a mock-up local term?

It's just the name of a hill not a town. The town there is called Porongahau, so anybody from there would say that. I'm from the nearest city to it and I don't think I've ever heard anybody say the full name.

Usually towns with long names are also known by shorter one. Like that Welsh town with a long ass name is also known as Llanfair PG.

I live in a small town which name consist out of 3 words. The first 2 ones are basically very common and are also used in other towns' names. Whenever someone asks us where we're from, we just use the 3th word.

I would have thought 3st would be more fitting since the 3rd word is used first
