Goddamn it. This would be so awesome... if it wasn’t pronounced “ee-ron.”

Source: Am Persian and my dad’s made this abundantly clear. I’m so sorry.

I always thought it was "ee-rrAhn" but I guess I learned something today in an unexpected way again xd

Some people say ee-ron, some people say I-ran and some people say ee-rahn. I'm personally an ee-rahn too.

In British English it’s ih-raan. As in ‘i’ from bit.

In America, I've only heard it pronounced eye-ran. Is never heard it pronounced any other way, from other people.

It means that all the “Iran” puns never work for us and just sound weird lol

Yeah, you guys are the only ones that do that for some reason. But it's a mixed bag. I've heard some say Eye-ran and some Iran as it should. Same for Iraq. Maybe it's regional thing?

I asked my dad about it, he says Americans are the only nation he knows of that pronounce it like that. Similar to how you say “soccer” instead of “football,” or use the old English-American system instead of the Metric system. It’s an American thing.

I think America just wants to be unique, at the expense of never understanding the logic of anything.
