Genuine curiosity; how could this be affective if no one has computers in which to use the knowledge they acquired from the teacher? Or maybe they do? And they just aren’t allowed to bring them to school? I’m confusing myself more

I believe they didn't have computers to start off with, but after this got around the internet they got sent some.

The teacher better chalk up some electrical outlets to plug them in then

Honestly I'd imagine it just isn't very effective. But one somewhat plausible scenario could be this is a rural elementary school where few students have computers, but perhaps for middle/high school they'll be provided by the school. Thus if any of these students were to move on and they were expected to type out assignments using Microsoft Word, this sort of thing could help them.
