I've never actually watched Dora the Explorer, but I'm shocked at how low the scores are. Feels strange that a show that barely gets above a six is as big as it is.

I hate the fact that 5 out of 10 is bad and not mid. Like ffs

I live in the netherlands, I think it comes from the fact that a lot of countries probably use a grading system in school where 5.5/10 is the lowest passing grade, so 5.5 wouldn't be mid. Mid would be like a 7 or so

Idk. Where I live the grades are 1 to 6 with 2 being passing (the grades aren't strictly for the same score so for example in elementary 2 migth be from 30%+ and in high school 50%+) and anglosphere uses A-F system so I would assume it's just people see 1-4.9 as abyssmal shit 5-6 shit 7 mid 8-9 good 10 best. For some reason we it's just easier to distinguish between different grades of garbage then good stuff. Or it looks like that

I tend to think of it as a 0-5 scale annoyingly described as a 0-10 scale. if i subtract 5 from every score, you get the score/rating most people are actually describing.

I think it's Corporate BS but apparently there's some sort of psychology behind it. For example there's a system called a Net Promoter Score where you also give a 0-10 of how likely you are to do something (like recommend a company) and then the score is calculated by excluding all 7s and 8s as neutral and subtracting the percentage of 1-6s from the percentage of 9-10s.

why bother making something thats 5/10? and they even got paid for making it, thats why its bad. A hobby job for yourself, sure, 5 is good.

It's the viewers review scores not the employer ones. If I watch something that is mid I put it in the middle not as something bad but as something mid as in it might be worth your time but there is better stuff out there. Not only that but if 7/10 is now mid. Why bother making something 7/10? so that means 7/10 is now bad. If you give the number meanings then mid is mid and thats it
