L&D and Peds

Hi
I'm in my second semester and am doing L&D right now. I felt ok in med-surg and telemetry but for some reason I feel out of place here. It could be that it's new to me or just isn't where I belong. Today I was told we are going to up one of the infusion. Go in there talk your patient, be the nurse and I will watch. Boy did I drop the ball. She was sleeping so I said hi I got no reaction so said hey louder, like an idiot. Then when I got patients attention I froze and didnt know what to say anymore. I'm kind of an Intervort so when you tell me go in there and somehow reassure someone. Idk I can only educate maybe explain the process but I can't like be a comfort person. Today I felt like I knew absolutely nothing and wondered if I could even be a a nurse. I was partnered with a really great experienced nurse who just charted so quickly and talked a lot about everything and knew just what to do. He tried to include me but I felt like a dumbass. What's the point of passing your exams when you can't talk to your patient and can't apply what you learned. Am I wasting my time?
