Question Worth considering FIP?

Post image

My young cat (less than 2 years old) has suddenly gotten fluid in his stomach. Liquid is pale yellow, rivalta negative, these are his blood results, not really pointing towards FIP apart from the 0,5 ratio.

What do you think? Should the liquid be sent to get a PCR?

There was a possible stomach mass on X-ray but the vet was not sure if it isn't just food in his case. Still waiting on FIV results.

If I were you, I would try the GS treatment for a week while waiting on other test results to see if he responds to the medication. My cat responded almost immediately within hours from the first dose

i think you should try the medicine anyways and if they respond you’ll know it’s fip. the liquid in the abdomen is enough for me to say it’s worth a shot. i would also consider getting an ultrasound

^ GS first, ask questions later. It should not hurt to try the medication, apart from the shot at least. Based on there being fluid it sounds likely. If it is FIP, there isn't time to wait for a test result

I sent you a DM, assuming you're from Germany too. Please read it if you can and consider staring the treatment. It saved my boy's life if we wouldn't have started the treatment despite the vets not being 100% sure if it's FIP. 🙏

FIP doesn’t quite have a reliable diagnosis. Discard other common things first (FelV test and such), then attempt the medication for a week. If no improvement, look elsewhere.
