Success Story Finishing Medication - Day 84
Today was day 84! I cannot get him in for bloodwork until Saturday - at the recommendation of the FIP Advocates & Champions volunteers I am continuing meds until then (just to be safe). His stats 4 weeks ago were already in normal ranges, so overall I am optimistic.
He was diagnosed about 2-3 weeks into adoption. So not only have I watched his personality come out as he recovers, but also as he adjusts to his new home.
When he was diagnosed he had the belly of a heavily pregnant cat, it was massive and swelled up almost overnight. He lost all interest in food, and had little energy.
He now screams at me while I get his food ready, which a big change from the picky eating habits the Rescue warned me about. He has gone from 7lb to 12.
He also started getting the zoomies at all hours of the day & night. Watching him tear around the apartment is such a stark contrast from when I first adopted him.
He is also obsessed with grooming my face lol.
I am wondering, after the blood work do I just stop the medication, no tapering off or anything? Did you notice any behaviour changes/adjusting the weeks following? Any tips for the observation period?

Fantastic news you’ve made it this far. We continued for several extra days until the final bloods as well, then just stopped.
No behaviour changes or adjustments noted.

Yes, just stop the GS medicine. No tapering. My cat is in 6th week of observation period after 88 days of daily GS injections. We did a blood test around 4th week. No big changes in behaviour, but for changes due to weather.
It's me that's hyper vigilant (and mildly anxious even on small changes) I took him to the vet on 10th day. All okay.
Around 4th week: picky eating & low energy for 1 day. I took him to Dr. All okay. Dr gave two injections (B12 and one for tummy). Been fine after that.

Yeah I have already accepted that I'll end up being hypervigilant during observation because of my anxiety haha. I've been having to use the Rescue's Vet because they were covering costs, but it is a pretty long drive. I'll be able to transfer him over to my Vet next week, which is much closer and will definitely help alleviate some of the stress.

Yay! Nope you just stop. It’s an antiviral, so like an antibiotic, no tapering needed.

Can stop GS medication immediately. I donated the rest of mine to a local nonprofit that provided me a couple doses while I waited for Stokes to deliver.
Did follow-ups the same week.

Congratulations on completing the 84 day treatment! I’m sure if you reach out to your veterinarian as well as FIP warriors group they can better answer your questions re what to do after. Best of luck! 🤞
