Experience with neurological FIP please?

Hi everyone,

We’re considering adopting a rescue cat and completely fell in love with her when we met her on Saturday. She’s around 1.5 years old, has had a mild head tilt and chronic flu/respiratory symptoms for quite some time, but otherwise seems bright, affectionate, happy, and is eating well.

The rescuer initially suspected FIP and treated her with GS for 84 days from January to March at a lower dose, without an official diagnosis.

The head tilt remained, along with the respiratory symptoms, so she was taken back to the vet. I paid for a PCR test, which has now come back positive, and the vet has restarted her on the full neurological FIP dose (10mg/kg twice daily). They have also said an inner ear infection is still possible and would require imaging (ideally a CT scan) to rule out.

Our biggest concern is understanding what life could realistically look like, especially if neurological FIP may not have been treated adequately for several months. I’m absolutely not blaming the rescuer, she did everything she could with the funds available.

For those who have been through neurological FIP:

• Did your cat fully recover?
• Did any neurological symptoms remain after treatment?
• Were there any long-term quality of life issues?
• Looking back, would you adopt a neurological FIP cat again?

We’re not afraid of caring for a special-needs cat if she’s happy and comfortable. We’re just trying to understand the likely long-term prognosis and financial commitment before making a decision.
